This is a continuation of my questions about the Petitions to Form Appomattox , Virginia from Buckingham, Campbell, Charlotte, and Prince Edward Counties 1825-1845 by Harriet A Chilton on page four of this manuscript is a NOTICE that Harriet Chilton says was probably posted on the court house doors two months prior to the annual elections. NOTICE Is herby given that a Petition will be presented to the next General Assembly, praying for a New County to be formed from parts of Buckingham, Prince Edward, Charlotte, and Campbell Agreeably to the lines herein specified, (viz) Beginning at the mouth of David's Creek on James River, thence in line to the head of Holiday Creek, thence down the same, as it meanders to Appomatix River: thence down the same to the Cut Banks; thence a line to the mouth of Cabin Branch on Vaughn's Creek; thence up the said Creek to its head; thence a lin to Merryman's or Land's; thence along the Public Road leading by McKinney's Old Store to the fork of the Lynchburg road, about a mile north of the Red House; thence along the Lynchburg Road to the Mill formerly owned by Samuel Branch, Esq., on Falling River; Thence up the said River to the Mouth of Reedy Creek; thence n line to Hunter's Old Tavern (now Glover's) thence a line to Sterling C. Anderson's; thence a line to the Mouth of Scott's Branch, about a mile below the Mouth of Joshun's Creek on James River; and thence down the River to the beginning. THe Court house to be located at Clover Hill in the now County of Prince Edward. february 26 My questions: I would like help with locating any of the named places, but in particular that of Sterling C. Anderson's. Also does it make sense to interpret the beginning (at the mouth of David's Creek on James River) to be the corner shared between Appomattox, Campbell and Amherst? and the final place (thenc n line to the Mouth of Scott's Branch, about a mile below the Mouth of Joshun's Creek on James River....and thence DOWN the River to the beginning.) to be the corner shared with Nelson, Buckingham and Appomatox? Am I correct in assuming that Down the River means towards the southwest in this area? Thanks for your help. Marsha in WV
