    3. "Death Notices from the Richmond Virginia Newspapers 1841-1853" compiled by Wesley E. Pippenger 2002 [ult. means previous month. inst. is present month] "Died at his residence, in the town of New Canton, Buckingham Co., on Mon. the 15th ult. [i.e. 15th Jan 1841] at 45 minutes after 4 o'clock in the morning, Mr. JOHN ANDERSON, late merchant of that place, aged 32 years, 10 month and 20 days. He sustained himself as an honorable, industrious, respectable citizen; but he is borne away, in the prime of life, to that country from which no traveler returns, leaving an affectionate and much distressed wife to lament her irrecoverable loss; also, numerous near relatives and friends, & c. " [from The Richmond Enquirer Newspaper, published date 2 March 1841, page 3] "Died, on Fri. the 5th of March [i.e. 5 Mar 1841], at his residence, in the county of Buckingham, FREDERICK CABELL, SR., in the 73rd year of his age." [from The Richmond Whig, daily, published date 12 Mar 1841, page 2] "Died, on the 19th inst [i. e.19 Mar 1841], in the 34th year of her age, Mrs. MARTHA J. FLOOD, consort of COL. THOMAS H. FLOOD of Buckingham, leaving a devoted husband and five children to lament the severest loss they could have sustained" [from The Richmond Whig, daily, and The Richmond Whig tri-weekly, 30 Mar 1841, page 2] "Died, at the Rock Mills, his residence, in the county of Buckingham, on the 19th of Mar. 1841, NATHANIEL LANCASTER, in the 51st year of his age. Mr. Lancaster was attacked about the first of Feb with a rheumatic fever, which for some time did not appear to be of a threatening character--but by the 20th of that month, the disease had gradually and insidiously advanced--inflammation having located on the lungs and spine, producing their characteristic symptoms of harassing cough and a train of most painful neuralgic sufferings. He was, indeed, a good and valuable man, beloved of all in all the relations of life--and it is enough to add, that he was all that his friends desired. If he had an enemy, it was not known." [The Richmond Whig, daily, 14 Apr 1841, page 2; Richmond Whig tri-weekly, 16 Apr 1841, page 4] "Died, at his residence in the county of Buckingham, on the 6th inst [i.e. 6 May 1841], FINCH SCRUGGS, ESQ., in the 66th year of his age. Mr. Scruggs was a man of many rare and good qualities--as a magistrate, in which capacity he acted for forty years, few, if any, were his superior--as a master, kind and humane, and as a friend and neighbor ardent, and at all times ready to serve his fellow man. He has left a disconsolate wife and a large family of children and friends to bemoan his loss." [Richmond Whig, daily, 19 May 1841, page 2; Richmond Whig, tri-weekly 21 May 1841, page 1]
