I don't know the history of New Canton and would like to know also..my great great great grandfather,WALTER IRVINE, was a merchant there and died in 1807 (published in Va. newspaper) .. his widow remarried a man named Smyth Payne who was apparently a lawyer around New Canton..I located his wife's obit..she had died leaving 11 children...my ancestor died in Cumberland Co..just across the river apparently...he must have been relatively young when he died...I have often wondered if he was brought back to New Canton area to be buried...he died at his brother-in- law's home so he may have been buried there..I too wonder if the cemetaries in Buckingham Co have been recorded.
