On my way back from Monticello several weeks ago, I made a quick trip through Buckingham County, looking for Penlan and New Canton, where my grandmother came from. On the road to New Canton, there was a really marvelous historic church, but the cemetary was really sad. Some tombstones were being swallowed up by the woods. The church is beautiful. I can't remember the name--beautiful brick structure. Is there a possibility of its being restored? Has that cemetary been documented? I then went through New Canton--what a neat place. Penlan was very disappointing--the only thing I saw was a railroad sign saying Penlan. I was hoping to find graves of Inges and Boatrights but didn't so came back a little disappointed. New Canton would be a neat place to restore. Does anyone on the list know of the history of these two places?
