The story about these murders is found on pages 349-350 of my book Waltons of Old Virginia and Sketches of Families in Central Virginia. It is interesting to note that Mrs. George Fitzgerald reported these deaths in 1936. She is the same source of my information, given to me in 1975. I attended a Davis gathering earlier this year in Buckingham County. There was a man named Phaup in attendance, who told about the murders. I believe that he said he was the financial manager of Hampden-Sidney College. He has some rare pictures of the Davis family, taken in England, that I wish had been available for the book.
