    1. RE: [VABUCKIN] Buckingham County lodging

    3. Susan, No one answered your query, so I will give my opinion. There are few places of lodging in Buckingham County. The major motel is at at Sprouses Corner near Dillwyn (intersection of US Routes 60 and 15). It is very overpriced for what they offer, not a bargain. I consider it a "rip-off" because they have a monopoly on lodging in Buckingham County. When I'm not staying with relatives, I usually stay in Farmville, which is just across the Buckingham County line in Prince Edward County. You will find a better selection of motels there (check it out on YAHOO!) As for Cumberland County, I would give the same advice...find a motel in Farmville. I used to stay in a small motel on US Rt. 60 east of Cumberland Court House, but I heard that it went out of business. My parents lived and died in Cumberland County, so I always stayed with them when I visited the County. I do not know of one motel in the County, but there could be a "mom-and-pop" type that I overlooked. If I have missed something, I too would like to hear what others do for lodging in Buckingham and Cumberland Counties. If you're going further west, there are motels in Appomattox (like Super 8), and Lynchburg is represented by almost every motel chain, plus it has the 3rd best genealogical library in the State (Jones Memorial Library), the first two being the Library of Virginia in Richmond and the Alderman Library at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA.
