I am Janie Peters, and am trying to research, without much luck, the Mitchell side of my family. I am having a very hard time getting beyond my Grandfather, John Mason Mitchell, born July 30, 1870 and died October 3, 1955. ( I do not know if he was born in Buckingham, but he lived there in New Canton, and died there.) He was married to Janie Davis, (my grand mother), Sallie G. Raikes, and Birdie Murphy. I have been told that they lived at an old mining site (Roots Mine) just off state route 15 in New Canton Virginia when he was growing up. The relatives still living do not know much, as they say he never talked about his family. I have been given the names John and Jim for this father, but never have found a definite link yet. If anyone is researching Mitchell, and can help, I would greatly appreciate any (all) leads.
