John Carter RAKES/RAIKES b abt 1775 m Nancy SANDERS, moved to Marion Co, KY was said to be the son of William RAKES b abt 1750 d abt 1831. His mother is as yet unknown by any researchers as far as I know. I believe William RAKES was married twice and had children by both wives. I haven't done any research for awhile but I have some family history in VA if you have anything I can help you with. I have been trying to make the link between this Henry Miles (born around 1792) and his father which I believe has to be either Thomas, William, or Isham Miles. There was also a Henry Miles in Bedford Co. that it appears was the son of Isham (also born around 1792) so this adds confusion. I have seen documentation that indicates William had no children so I'm thinking Thomas Miles must have been Henry's father but I can't make a definite link.

Tabitha was born about 1777 in VA. She died Sep 1855 in Cumberland Co, KY and was buried in Cumberland Co, KY. They had the following children: + 4 F i. Nancy Ann HICKS was born 1808 and died 1889. + 5 F ii. Jane R. HICKS was born 15 Jan 1810 and died 15 May 1871. + 6 M iii. Charles Reuben HICKS was born 12 Jul 1814 and died 8 Apr 1909. 7 M iv. They had the following children: 9 M i. Reuben Davis RADFORD was born 3 Feb 1836. He died 13 Mar 1920 in Bates Co., MO. Reuben married Mary J. HOPKINS on 25 Dec 1856. Mary was born 9 Feb 1834. She died 18 Mar 1920 in Bates Co., MO. 6. Charles Reuben HICKS (Anthony James, Hickerson) was born 12 Jul 1814. He died 8 Apr 1909 in Cumberland Co, KY. Charles married Margaret Alcorn SMITH on 23 Jan 1852 in Cumberland Co, KY. Margaret was born 3 Feb 1833 in Cumberland Co, KY. She died 11 Nov 1924. They had the following children: 10 M i. This Hix family (some branches of it, at least) eventually changed the spelling to "Hicks." It appears that the William Davidson in Goochland probably married one of the Hix women there, since there was a man with the unusual name of Goulder Hix in Goochland, and there a later man named Goulder Davidson in the Davidson family (apparent son of William Davidson). William Davidson appears to have moved to Henry Co., VA by 1777 (from Buckingham Co., VA, where some of William's relatives lived by 1761 when Buckingham was created from a part of Albemarle Co., VA), and a Richard Davidson also appeared in Henry Co., VA with William Davidson and Goulder Davidson in the early 1780s (note: there was also a man named Richard Hix in the above Hix family, and it appears that the name Richard had never been used before by this Davidson family......! so further eidence that William Davidson probably married a Hix women). Based on the above, I would not be surprised if some Hix/Hicks were in Buckingham Co., VA. I know that there were some Hix in "next-door" Cumberland Co., VA (which was created from a part of Goochland in 1749), and Cumberland is "next-door" to Buckingham. As I recall, this Hix family descended from a John Hix(e) and his wife Sarah Preston (I think it was). They had several children, and a Marmaduke Hix appeared on the above-mentioned Goochland tithe list, as did several other Hix men (including the above-mentioned Goulder Hix).
