    2. I think you are referring to the citation in Roger G. Ward's book where Peter PANKEY bought 2 acres on Bedford Road from David MCCORMACK. WRR is Willis River and 12SW does mean 12 miles southwest of the courthouse. But Bedford Road is a mystery because this is the only instance when Bedford Road is mentioned in any of Mr Ward's books. In other land transactions by David MCCORMACK he refers to land being near "the Main Road" (12SW). And in another transaction he refers to David MCCORMACK's land as being listed "variously as Hudson Morris residence, Morris Tavern, or Stage Road (12SW)". Ruby Talley Smith

    3. An 1825 Buckingham County land record gives the location as Bedford Road/WWR (12 SW). I is someone familiar with the location of this road and if the name has been changed? If I understand it correctly, is 12 miles south west of the Court House, near the Willis River. Thank you.

    3. In addition to the references that Ruby just sent in, there are several Baird/Beard references in my 1998 book Land Lying in the County of Albemarle: Albemarle County, Virginia Surveyors' Plat Books Volume 1, Parts 1 and 2, and Volume 2 (1744-1853). The Albemarle surveyors' books, naturally, include the territory that became Buckingham County in 1761 and are the precursors to the Buckingam County surveyors' book abstracts I published in 1982 that Ruby refers to in her message. The references for this family in the Albemarle records are mostly to their appearance in surveys prior to 1761. The appearance of a name in the abstracts means that the person is included in the specific plat either as the person for whom the survey was done or as an abutter, witness, chain carrier, or surveyor. The name Ovid is in my family, and my family lived in Nuckols also. I was wondering if there is a connection somewhere. Actually there is a connection but it is not close enough to account for the name of Ovid showing up in both families. Ovid Alton RAIKES was the son of Samuel Jones RAIKES and Ruby Lee LESUEUR. Ruby Lee LESUEUR was d/o William Daniel LESUEUR who was s/o Daniel Perry LESUEUR. His mother was Susannah Hales AYRES. Her father was John Hales AYRES who was son of Matthias AYRES the immigrant. Clarence Ovid DAVIDSON's mother was Lucy Alice NUCKOLS. Her mother was Sarah Frances JONES. Her mother was Lucy GARRETT. Lucy GARRETT was d/o Charles GARRETT Jr. The mother of Charles GARRETT Jr was Mary AYRES. Mary AYRES was the daughter of Matthias AYRES, the immigrant. So they both go back to the common ancestor of Matthias AYRES who died in Buckingham Co, VA about 1782. Ruby Talley Smith

You have helped more than you know. Maybe there is someone else 'out there' who can help in locating Felix' mother and father. I have a genealogy 'gut' feeling his father was William Gibson SR from Buckingham County, Va. Felix was married to Nancy Miles (first wife), then Mary Miles in 1845 (married by Mary's father, Rev. Henry Miles , at Mt Pleasant in Buckingham County, Va. They then left Va sometime after 1850 (according to census records) and headed for Ky. My question was ,"what migration route did they take to end up in Wayne County, Ky" (and later in Lincoln and Casey Counties)? Did they go down into NC and Tn and up in to Wayne County, Ky ????? Do you have any ideas? Thanks so much, Sincerely, A frustrated genealogist, Peggy Galloway in Danville, Ky.

It appears that Zach and Susan had a son who was also named Zachariah and a grandchild (as I recall) via that son with the middle name of Ovid, but I don't know why they chose that name (and that son and his family moved to West VA). Vitula Monroe (Sandridge) Davidson's oldest son Eli Banton Davidson PROBABLY used that name for his son Clarence Ovid Davidson simply because it had been used in his maternal Sandridge family, but that is just a guess. Zach and Susan also had a son named Thomas O. (Ovid, perhaps?) Davidson, and Joseph and Vitula Monroe (Sandridge) Davidson had a second son named Thomas Archer Davidson (my ggf and Eli Banton Davidson's younger brother).
