    2. F.Hill
    3. Hi Rose, Memoirs of Buckingham County and Along The James by Emily Maxey Jenkins states the following: In 1786, John Pankey, moved his family to Buckingham Co, now Appomattox. His land was on a road leading to the town of Bent Creek. He built a store called "Tower Hill". In 1815, John Pankey's estate consisted of 709 acres on David's creek - 18 miles west of courthouse. Four generations of this family operated Tower Hill store, from 1856 until 1934. It was a 3 story brick structure on the highest hill in the area. The upper floor was used as a meeting place for Masonic Lodge. People living near Tower Hill described the store, Post Office, and a shoe repair shop. It was torn down in the 1950's. I hope this helps. Fran Harris Hill Richmond, VA --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Next-gen email? Have it all with the all-new Yahoo! Mail Beta.

    3. Thanks Carol, and for taking the time to type the information..... The Abner Seay you spoke of is our ancestor, and I am familiar with Whitley's book Abner was also one of the signers of the Petition on the creation of Planterstown. I was hoping to pinpoint the location of Pankey's Store, probably Arvonia. Is the Marshall District in Arvonia? Peter Pankey was the only head-of-household Pankey in 1870 census in Buckingham, and residing in the Marshall District. Perhaps the store was in this area. It existed for many years, with the same name, even into the 1900's, I am told. One of our ancestors lived above the store in the 1870's. Hoping to get a tip soon, thanks again, Rose ----- Original Message ----- From: "Setliff" <sliff@wctc.net> To: <VABUCKIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 03, 2006 5:37 PM Subject: RE: [VABUCKIN] Olden Store in Buckingham.. > Rose, > In a book called "Genealogical Records of Buckingham Co., Virginia", by > Buck, on pages 133-135 is in part written... > > "In 1930 while searching for the graves of Claiborne West and wife Betty > Ann Woodson (Epperson), the author found Mr. Irving Davie living in the > old Claiborne West home. 3. Arvonia is located in the corner of Buckingham Co. near Dillwyn and New Canton. It is also where the famous slate quarries are located. I know I have seen the name Pankey in that area several times. There are Pankey headstones in the Buckingham Baptist Cemetery on State road #15 and also the Arvon Memorial Cemetery on stat road 675. As to the store I cannot help..sorry. Good Luck, Michael Harding Sarasota, FL Surnames in Buckingham: Harding, Page, Wootten, Wooton, Harvey, Amos, Hudgins, Hudgens, and many, many more twists in the tree.

    3. Rose, In a book called "Genealogical Records of Buckingham Co., Virginia", by Buck, on pages 133-135 is in part written... "In 1930 while searching for the graves of Claiborne West and wife Betty Ann Woodson (Epperson), the author found Mr. Irving Davie living in the old Claiborne West home. In his possession was an old account book for the years 1802-1803, kept by John Epperson at his tobacco warehouse and general store on the Appomattox River, Buckingham County, Virginia, at the place of settlement called Planterstown. (4 sentences omitted). Mr. Irving Davie allowed the author to make a copy of the old book, which is quite lengthy and carried a number of duplications of names. In order to save space the author has copied only those names shown in the book." Among the names on these 3 pages are Abner Seay and William Seay. I do not see any Pankey, but there is John Palmer, James Parker, N. Patterson, and George Perkins. In total there are approximately 200 names listed. I realize this store was in existence earlier than you'd asked for, but I thought it may help you since I see your last name is Seay.
