Another one of the grandsons of James and Sallie Apperson was named Samuel Sterling Harris. I have looked in my data base and don't find who the original Sterling was....but the name was used a lot. Marsha There was a Dr Sterling FORD who was brother to Hezekiah FORD b abt 1788 who married Elizabeth BALLOWE. Hezekiah FORD & Elizabeth BALLOWE had a son named Newton Sterling FORD. These people were in Cumberland Co, VA. It would not surprise me to find a connection there one of these days. To add a more recent one, the Sterling Guthrie APPERSON who married Eliza NEWTON had a son named Thomas Jefferson APPERSON. He married Sarah Frances ENGLAND and they named their son who was born 12 Feb 1880, Sterling Guthrie APPERSON after his grandpa. Ruby Talley Smith

    2. They did immigrate from France but I have never heard of them being trappers in particular. At least not any more than any other early Virginian who was trying to make a living off the land. They were farmers and no doubt trapped and hunted as well as fished to supplement the food supply for the family. Ruby Talley Smith

He was born 18 Feb 1812 and on 9 Aug 1834 he married Eliza NEWTON, of "my NEWTONs". She was d/o William NEWTON Jr & Edna TAYLOR. Our common ancestor was William NEWTON Sr & Frances HARRIS. There are a plethora of records on Sterling Guthrie APPERSON. He was always doing something to generate a record, good or bad. If all of my ancestors had done the same I would know a lot more about them. 2. Thank you Ruby. Thought Paulina Robertson maybe a cousin of one my direct ancestors. Archer T. Robertson was my great-great grandfather who married Ann Seay. The children they had that I know of Narcissus who married Ella Campbell county Christina who married George Dameron Buckingham county Thomas who married Lillie Robertson Nelson county Powhatan who married Maggie Thomas Buckingham county Andrew Iverson (my great grandfather) married Martha Denton Buckingham county Archer ? still looking for him Emma who married Joshua Carroll Nelson county Ella who married William Fletcher Robertson Nelson county Edgar Meredith who died at the age of 2 (info given to me by Rose Seay) Newby ? ( not sure of this one's name but it looked like Newby in the birth records) died at birth Ann had several stillborns or miscarriages that were listed unnamed. Ann lived with her daughter Ella Robertson (info from Irving S. Robertson, Jr.) but I have no info of her death and where buried. Archer died of consumption in 1880 in Lovingston, Va. Don't know where he's buried either. Any info could help. There are Robertsons living on the Nelson/Buckingham county lines in Wingina. I know they are related to us but don't know through who. Thank you for all you do, Deborah Robertson Peak

    3. I received several emails last night from people wanting to know where I had found the death certificates and I thought I would post a link to the Library of Virginia website which explains the death certificates and how they are found there. Hope this helps. It is a little confusing in the beginning but after you search 2 or 3, you'll be a pro. http://www.lva.lib.va.us/whatwehave/vital/death-certificates/index.htm There is a binder at Buckingham Courthouse that has some death certificates but it mostly covers 1912-1917 or so. 2. In a message dated 8/11/2006 3:13:23 PM Eastern Daylight Time, RUBYGEM@aol.com writes: As far as I know, no one has found the parents of Lucy Frances TONEY. Ruby Talley Smith Thanks. Those Toney's are so hard to track down!!! My great grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Toney, daughter of Charles T. Toney and his wife Martha. I've researched this group as much as I can. When Charles died, this two children were living with their guardian John M. Toney who I believe is Charles' brother. His (John's) marriage record indicates that he is the son of Charles and Elizabeth Toney. The land tax records show that Charles T. and John M. each received an equal share of the estate of John Toney, son of John Toney. So I can't figure them out. I've also been trying to figure out who Martha was. She died before 1850, probably about 1849. In 1850 Charles T. Toney has in his household a Mary Johnson who is old enough to be his or Martha's mother. There is also an Elizabeth - an I can't remember her surname - but she appears to the the right age to be Charles' or Martha's sister. So this is where I stand on my Nuckols/Snoddy/Toney/Agee roots. I'm due a trip to Buckingham soon. I also have Camden roots there. Charles Cardwell Camden was my great grandfather.
