Linda, I am just finding cousins in Buckingham that I believe are connected with my Edward and Elizabeth Taylor(late 1700's Edw. d. 1824 and Eliza. d. 1838) and also the Thomas and Millie Markham Taylor family. These folks were connected as they were in Campbell and Buckingham VA and then many lived near each other in Sumner Co. TN in the 1830's. Will pour over my lists this weekend and look hard for James and Jordan. Thanks so much for the land records. I didn't have those. Please keep me in mind too as you are searching. I want so badly to find Edward's parents and Elizabeth's maiden name. (Have strong suspicion that she was a Garrett but not proven). Could be worse hunting - could have been Smiths!! Dear Marlene, If you do find some tax records on line please let me know. I have tried reading them in Salt Lake City on microfilm and they are hard to read and very time consuming. I am descended from James Taylor and Jordan Taylor his son in Buckingham Co. Virginia. I wrote the other note about the West family. Linda Z.
I have a book on Buckingham Co. Va. There are no land records etc. because a fire in 1869 burned everything. There is a paragraph on The West Family. starting with Delaware West dated 4-Jan-1810. He gave all his estate to his brother John West and named his niece Elizabeth Seaton. John West married Elizabeth Seaton (aunt of William Winston Seaton)whose Biography furnished this information) and had issue: Thomas I will send the other paragraph if this is your family. Let me know.

Linda, could I trouble you to look up the Duncan family? Specifically I am looking for Charles Duncan, purportedly son of Jacob Duncan, who moved through NC into Ga and was born 1775. Could you also tell me if a Ford Family (Charles married Mary Ford) also lived in the area? Many thanks if you find the time. Dot Wilson Duncan Tampa, Florida RONANDDOT@aol.com
I, too am looking for old Buckingham Co, Va. marriages - of one Charles Duncan, b. 1775 to Mary Ford. Would love to hear the answer also! Dot Wilson Duncan Tampa, Florida RONANDDOT@aol.com
Linda, Give me a little bit more data and I will look in the few books I have on Buckingham Co., and see what I can come up with for you. I have probably deleted the other messages and I don't know what exactly you are looking for. We can send it privately if you wish instead of to the list. Marlene PPerry9426@aol.com
I would appreciate your sending it to me VERY MUCH. I think this is my line but I am not certain at this point. Marlene West Perry PPerry9426@aol.com P.O. Box 146 Scott Depot, WV 25560

Hi Fellow Researchers, My father was native of Buckingham and was one of the many Taylors born there. However, I am somewhat perplexed over something. My father's mother was a Banton and indeed her mother was also a Banton before she was married, but it appears to me to be little information on Banton families in the early 1800's in the County. For example, I researched the 1830 Virginia census at the library just yesterday and there were NO Bantons listed in the entire state that year. Am curious to know if anyone else has researched this line and please tell me where they were all "hiding" around 1830. Am willing to share what info I have on Bantons to date if you would like to have that. Jim Taylor Newport News, Va.
Can anyone tell me if there is a book or anything available of OLD Buckingham Co., Va. marriages, birth or deaths. I am looking for a marriage of JOHN WEST & SUSANNAH ? about 1780-1800 Marlene PPerry9426@aol.com
Hi Ann, Saw your Internet message regarding the Taylors of Buckingham. I am a Taylor and indeed a Buckingham Taylor! My father was Russell J. Taylor, his father was James Mathew Taylor (better known at Matt), and his father was Dick Taylor. I have been working my Mother's side of the family for last year or so and have only what I have been told by word of mouth on Dad's side. You also mentioned Campbell County. Interestingly, my mother was also a Taylor and her people came from Bedford which is just a stone's throw or so from Campbell. I have run across Edward Taylor in some of the census but do not know if there is any connection or not. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Jim Taylor Newport News, Va.
Alice, Sorry, I don't have any Robertsons but was hopeful when you mentioned searching the marriage records in Buckingham. It is very difficult for me to get any southern records here in Wisconsin unless I get to the Historical Society couple times a year (4 hr. drive) Would you happen to have any Taylor marriages (or Garrett) in Buckingham in the 1765-1800 time frame? My Edward Taylor m. Elizabeth____prob. in the 1780's and prob. in Buckingham. I have nothing on parents of either of these grgrGrandparents. I do know there were lots of Taylors in Buckingham at that time and I believe they were all related, also many tie-ins with Garretts and Flowers. If you only have records on your Robertsons, I understand. Thanks for any help. My Edward Taylor and Elizabeth lived in Campbell Co. VA from 1800 until his death in 1824. I am guessing at their birth years (1760's???) Ann in Wisconsin
CADDOWENS requested information for mapping information site. The Peabody Museum of Natural History at Yale University has a site which will allow you to search for various features, similar to the US GNIS. It will give you map coordinates but the print is so small I can't tell if you caan get actual maps. URL is http://www.peabody.yale.edu/other/gnis/ Best regards, Earl
Hello Rooters Some time ago (before an AOL crash) I had found a wonderful site that would allow you to enter a name (i.e, town, river, mountain, creek, cemetery - whatever, and it would then go to all of those - then you go click on the one you wanted and it would map it for you. Does anyone know of this site? Secondly, I have bookmarked a site for the USGS (below) http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html It would appear this site would do what I want, but it will not work - message is "cannot retrieve......" Is anyone else having this problem? Alice in Fluvanna
Hello Fellow Rooters I am sorta new to this list - been subbed for a while but have not posted query yet I am searching for a ROBERTSON {or varient spelling}, family who were probably in Buckingham in the early 1800s. My only known child is Samuel born about 1810. I have looked high and low, sideways, byways, inbetween, no family connections yet found. I realize there are many of this name, especially in Cumberland County, but again no connection. Samuel ROBERTSON married Sarah "Sallie" KIDD of Fluvanna County (just across the river!) in 1853. Since Samuel was a generation older than Sallie, I have always wondered if Samuel may have had a prior marriage and family, , but have found no indication. He is single in 1850. Their sons were named Thomas, Samuel, and James - Thomas is Sallie's father, Samuel is for himself, thus James stands out as presenting a possibility for the ancestor's name. Again, there are several with this name. I have extracted all extant birth and death records and marriages from Buckingham trying to put together families, but .... Does anyone out there have ROBERTSON family with son/brother/uncle/nephew Samuel born ca 1810? TIA Alice in Fluvanna
