Hi Alice, Your communication to "Frank" was sent to me as well!. You may be deluged with look-up requests in your cemetery book. I am looking for information on Addison Webster (b 17 Sep 1780) who owned a plantation in Buckingham County in 1840. Cannot locate him before or after. (Father was Aaron (1755), mother Phebe Winston. They both died in CT) My gggrandfather was Rezin Webster. The reason I suspect that Addison was Rezin's father is that Rezin named a son Addison. If Rezin was born in Buckingham, perhaps there are other siblings who died young and were buried there. Rezin married Gene (Jean) Oliver -- no info. Any info in your book? Thanks. Sharon
I have been to Buckingham Co several times. The courthouse still is the best bet for research. Most of the records are after 1869 but some deeds and land transactions are from earlier. The library in Dillwyn has a small but decent genealogy section there. Talking with the locals is always fun and usually a great source of info. What names are you looking for in particular? Kathy H. Brown
Buckingham Courthouse was also burned in 1869 but there are still a lot of records in the courthouse and Historic Buckingham Inc., P. O. Box 152, Buckingham, VA 23921 has done some excellent research. You may also want to visit the Virginia State Library on Broad St. in Richmond. They have microfilm of all census records and a very large selection of books. You can check out their web site: <A HREF="http://leo.vsla.edu/">The Library of Virginia</A> . Hope "ya'll" enjoy your trip to Virginia. Alicegayle@aol.com
Good Morning! I will be making a trip to VA., in June, and would like to know of good places to research for records of Buckingham Co., VA? We are from TX., and have no idea as to where we may find records during the time period of 1700 thru 1780. It is my understanding Buckingham Co., was burned, during the Rev. War. Any information will be appreciated. TIA, Debbie Hill dhill@childresstx.com
Karen, I just happen to have made a copy of the Buckingham County Tax List for 1800. There is no mention on INGLE or HANSON on this list -- the closest thing is HINSON. Of course, the tax list is not the census, so you may still find what you seek on the census. By the way, I am a new list member. I am searching for information on my MOSES and WOODSON ancestors who lived in Buckingham County. Does anyone have information on a Peter MOSES? -- Mary Taffet mdtaffet@syr.edu On Sat, 16 May 1998, Karen Ingle Langendorfer wrote: > If anyone has access to the 1800 Buckingham Co. Marlene, Don't know if this is your John West or not, but from: The Personal Property Tax Lists for the Year 1787 for Buckingham County, Virginia, by Nettie Schreiner-Yantis and Florene Love Name: John West Charged with Tax: Self 0 0 0 1 0 - Schoolmaster (The above 1 indicates number of horses, mares, colts & mules) Judy jlmaupin@aol.com
Hello, I would appreciate it if someone would do a lookup for me of JOHN WEST in 1800 BUCKINGHAM CO. VA .. a Tax list or a Census. Thanks in advance, Marlene West Perry
Karen, There are several historical books at most libraries with a decent genealogy section that have the 1800 Buckingham co. Tax list. It only lists Name, number of Male tithables, Horses, and Slaves. Look for it in Genealogical society books. Adriver@nctc.com
Hi Alice, Thanks for your reply. Any McCraw's Bondurant's or Word's you find will be beneficial. The odds are 99.5 :1 that they are mine. Thanks, Frank
Frank, I have the book "Buckingham Burials, A Survey of Cemeteries in Buckingham County, VA, Volume I". If you send me complete names I will be glad to look them up for you. Alicegayle@aol.com
Is anyone familiar with the Buckiongham County cemeteries and could tell me where MCCRAWs, BONDURANTs, or WORDs are burried? Thanks, Frank
If anyone has access to the 1800 Buckingham Co. Census I would greatly appreciate a lookup. I am looking for Henry INGLE and his wife Sarah (Sally) Hanson INGLE. Thank you for your time and consideration. Karen Ingle-Langendorfer karenl@willapabay.org
Hello All, I am searching for a Plaeasnt Pain who was listed in the 1800 Tax List of Buckingham Co. VA. He also signed a petition on July 29, 1797 to establish a town on the banks of the Appomattox River in Buckingham CO. VA. Any information would be appreciated. Alan Driver adriver@geocities.com

The new query board is ready to roll! To add your query and surname, go to: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~usgwqury/Va/Buckingham/index.cgi The queries and surnames will be searchable throughout the USGenWeb. This is a Great system! Please....anyone that wish to correspond with the Grannies, do so via private e-mail, not on the lists. We can appreciate their works, but I have had too many complaints from subscribers. Nuff said. Thanks, Yvonne, List Owner
The U.S. Census Compendium put out by Everton Publishers in 1973 lists not only the Federal census records available by state and county, but all the other "lists" that people use for a "census" count. Personal property tax lists, Buyers of "spirits", Baptist Petitioners, Land tax lists, and other things are used as such. But, no, I do not see a 1720 "tax list". A 1715 census for "Quit Rents" for Essex County, and a 1722? "Residents" of King William Parish is listed. At least that is all that I see for Virginia, Of course, my book may be way outdated, and there may be new material available now. I give them the benefit of the doubt. Anyone used them yet? Sandra

I do believe there is a lot of stuff out there including other diggers that are not at the heart of the matter rather the skimmings. I am frustrated in other words at things being sent me that are not correct or helpful. I just wanted to add my two cents. Worth and also to say I am happy for all of the great helps coming too and will continue to try to sift out the chaff. Sincerely, Arleta Galloway
Hi Cuzins and Fellow Rooters I may be the exception to the rule - - - - -but does this Granny stuff seem like spamming to anyone else? This 1720 census stuff is strange also - anyone else know of a 1720 census? Also, I am quite bothered by the incorrect use of "your" - seems like more fuel to add to my idea of spamming OK - people let me have it<BG> Alice in Fluvanna
