Looking for information or confirmation on Samuel Thomas Huddleston of Buckingham Co. who married first Sarah Huddleston around 1860 and then married a Martha (probably either a Meador or maybe Sarah's sister) around 1865. They stayed in Buckingham Co. Any news would be appreciated. Kathy Huddcooley@aol.com

Hi Alice, Is there an Isham R. Gilliam died May 25, 1896, in your cemetery book? I would like to know the name of the cemetery. Thanks a lot. Nell
Hi Sandra, I am researching the surname of LAWHORN, I have a: William LAWHORN, b. 1724, d. ? mar. ? who resided in Buckingham Co., VA., Thomas LAWHORN, b. 1770 VA., mar. Mary ? d. aft. 1850 KY. I suspect, but no proof, that Thomas was born in Buckingham Co., next I have him in Wythe Co., VA., where Joshua D. LAWHORN, b. 1814, by 1830 this family was listed in Cumberland Co., KY. I am hoping to find some records to have as proof. After listening to a taped seminar of Elizabeth Shown MILLS, according to Mills, there are more records to be found for Buckingham Co. My problem is having enough time and know how to find them. We are going to my CLOPTON family reunion in June 1998, will be in Williamsburg, Va., 21st-24th. If you by chance know anything about the LAWHORN, family please feel free to write back. Since this list does seem to be active again, I thought I would throw out my family names to see if anyone had additional information. Joseph Nuckols came to Buckingham from Louisa about 1820. He married three times: Elizabeth Smith, his first wife, was my gg grandmother. His son Benjamin married Martha Toney, daughter of CHarles T. Toney. Her mother's name was Martha, but I have not determined what her maiden name was. Charles' parents are up in the air also. This is my grandfather's line. Joseph Nuckols' other son Edward/Edmund married Jane Lewis Bradley, daughter of John Howard Bradley and Sarah W. Agee. I'm lost with John Howard Bradley. Sarah's mother was a Snoddy. From this side of the family, my grandmother Annie Camden descended. The Camdens were "come heres" in the mid to late 1800s. Annie's father was C. C. Camden, Commissioner of Revenue of Buckingham COunty at one time. Thanks for any help you might give. Good luck to all of you. ELizabeth Nuckols Lee
Mary, Could not find any Moses. There are a lot of Moseley's and Mosley but none with the name Peter of Joseph Monroe. Under Woodson there is a Woodson Family Cemetery, on Highway 672. It is a black cemetery with the following Woodson's buried there: Edna R. Woodson, b. 1893 d. 1919 Inscription: "Come Ye Blessed...Our Daughter" Jennie L. Woodson, b. May 10, 1878 d. May 20, 1900. There is a note about this cemetery. It says,"There are many more graves in this cemetery (100+) but they are only marked with slate and fieldstones. Another Cemetery, Woodson/Taylor Family on Highway 20, this is a white cemetery: Adline Woodson, b. 1871 d. Aug. 11, 1929. Buckingham Baptist Church Cemetery: Verna L. Woodson, b. July 23, 1908 (still living when this book was published in 1985) Eddie G. Woodson, husband of Verna, b. Jan 23, 1899 d. Jan 31, 1958 Enon Baptist Church, Highway 640 Grover Lee Woodson Sr., b. Feb. 9, 1917, d. Dec. 4, 1978 Mozella A., wife of Grover, b. June 16, 1919 (still living) Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Alicegayle@aol.com
Diana, I don't see any Keene's listed in the tax list, but then I just realized that the library shorted me one page, and that page is the one that might have the "K's" on it for District One. There are no Keene's listed in District Two. -- Mary Taffet mdtaffet@syr.edu On Sat, 16 May 1998, Jason & Diana Hyde wrote: > Are there any Keene's listed in this census? > > Diana Hyde > > > ==== VABUCKIN Mailing List ==== > Search this list's archived messages! > http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl >
Are there any Keene's listed in this census? Diana Hyde
Marlene, The 1800 Tax List does include a John West in the listing for District One. The entry is as follows: West, John (S R) 1-3-2-0 where the numbers mean: 1 "white male tithables" 3 "horses owned" 2 "Negro tithables" 0 "Negros aged over twelve" There is no indication as to what the (S R) means. Other West's mentioned include: West, Richard 1-7-6-0 West, Claborn 1-3-6-0 -- Hope this helps, Mary Taffet mdtaffet@syr.edu On Sat, 16 May 1998, PPerry9426 wrote: > Hello, > I would appreciate it if someone would do a lookup for me of JOHN WEST in > 1800 BUCKINGHAM CO. Alice, Does your book contain any mention of Peter Moses (died about 1830), Joseph Monroe Moses (died 1870's), Obadiah Woodson (died after 1850), or Drury Woodson--may have been W. Drury Woodson instead (died 1890's)? If so, I would very much appreciate any information that might be listed. -- Thanks, Mary Taffet mdtaffet@syr.edu On Sat, 16 May 1998, Alicegayle wrote: > Frank, > I have the book "Buckingham Burials, A Survey of Cemeteries in Buckingham > County, VA, Volume I". Dear Bill, I noticed you mentioned Wright as one of the names you are researching. I have done some work on the Wrights in Buckingham. Would you let me know which line you are tracing and perhaps we can exchange information. Best wishes, Bob Grant RNGrant@prodigy.com
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE "WEST" INFO. I really appreciate the other West info also. I think I know where they go. Do you think the (S.R) might be the son of Richard.?? Marlene
Hi Rooters I was beginning to think the list was dead. Glad to see y'all are still here. I am lurking, but just have not had anything to say. I was over to the clerk's office last week and met with another list member and we had a good time all day digging. If any of you are ever wanting any research done in the extant records in the clerk's office at Buckingham Court House - please contact me. I will be away for about five weeks, so if I don't respond, re-send end of June. Alice in Fluvanna
Sorry Sharon, No Websters or Winstons. There is a Oliver Family at "Hawksley" on Highway 649 in Buckingham. J. T. Oliver b. Feb. 17, 1852, d. July 4, 1920. wife was Mary Jessie Oliver, b. Dec. 14, 1852 d. Mar. 9, 1934. Pattie Oliver, no dates. I am also looking for Hammon Oliver. He posted surety bond for Judith Oliver to marry Augustus Gormis in 1816. I believe these to be my g.g.g.grandparents. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Alicegayle@aol.com
Dear Tia, What surnames are you researching in Buckingham Co? I would think that the best place to go would be to the Va. State Library in Richmond, to the archives section. They have so much on microfilm. It has been a long time since I have been there, so if you go, get in touch with them first as to location, and times they are open. If you let me know the names, I have family members in the area with lots of information on certain lines and they do have family reunions every summer. I am from Richmond but live in San Antonio now. Some of my names are Agee, Fore, Nash, Gaulding, Taylor, Mickle, Martin, Wright, Ferguson, Dickerson, and Walden. Cecil Taylor is my contact for the Taylor and Fore lines. Good hunting. Sandra Due
Hi Alice: I saw Franks query and just sent him a note to see if he has seen my Jasper"Jesse" Bondurant B. abt 1797 unk where. He married Matilda Gibbs 31 Sep 1825 in Bedford Co., Va. Have not been able to find any info on him as to his parents etc. I know he goes back to Jean Pierre Bondurant but I think I need two generations to get back there. Cannot find anything on him. Hi Frank: I saw your posting asking about cemeteries about several persons. I am researching my husbands line of Bondurants. As far as I can get is a Jasper"Jesse" Bondurant who was born abt 1797 unk where. He married a Matilda Gibbs 31 Sep 1825 in Bedford Co., Va. I cannot connect him to any parents,. I know he must go back to Jean Pierre Bondurant but I need the generations in between. In your search for Bondurants have you come across my "Jesse".
