How would anyone contact this Roger Ward to purchase his books on Buckingham Co., Va.?? Marlene
Has Anyone ever transcribed the Death Records from Buckingham Co. to put them in print or etc.?? If so, where could you locate it.?? Marlene
Sandra, Thanks for checking. Did you notice any Huddlestons or Jamerson/Jimmerson/Jameson/Jamisons in the marriages? Kathy (Huddcooley)
Hi to the list Re - my thoughts on the death register...go through it with a fine toothed comb...you never know what connections you will find...the earliest extant (1869-79) could well list people born in late 1700's...what a goldmine...did I say goldmine? Goldmine is a place in Buckingham...oh oh, off on another track... Alice
The records for Cumberland Co. in the book that I have do not go past 1809. Sorry. Sandra Due
I don't know how you would do this, but I think it is significant that there are signatures on the record. If you could get a copy of this piece of paper for future reference. And, don't count on everything being correct that other people have done. I just had my own work corrected on Monday, and boy, am I glad. I can tell you I will be a lot more careful from now on. I had taken some information from another individual and added a few facts to it to make it come out like I thought it should be. We tend to do that with "burned counties", but we should all be more careful. I always say the information is there, just waiting to be found, if you look in the right place. Sincerely, Sandra
Marlene, I am not familiar with the West family, but on pg 167 of "Virginia Marriage Records" taken from the Va. Mag. of History & Bio, the William & Mary College Quarterly, and Tyler's Quarterly. Indexed by Elizabeth Petty Bentley and published by the Genealogical Pub. Co., Inc. 1984. "Cumberland County, Virginia, Marriage Bonds" by William Shepard. John West & Susanna Robinson. signed John West, John Robinson, Mr. Wills and Patcy Daniel. (Application for license by father, Joseph Robinson.) Valentine Flowers and Elizabeth Flippin. Nov. 26, 1785. signed. Valentine Flowers, Jesse Flippin. These two were together and both indented about five spaces from the margin. No date directly on the John West/Robinson marriage. ?A double wedding. Sandra Due Thought it might be of some value.
Alice, Thanks for the hint. I have tried looking in the Buckingham Co. death register but have not had any success in finding him. I have not been able to find a marriage listing either. Thanks for the thought. Any other thoughts would be equally appreciated. kathy H. Brown
Sandra, Could you please check in the Cumberland Co. Marriages that you mentioned for a Samuel Thomas Huddleston and a Martha, married around 1865? I would really appreciate it. I have been unable to find a marriage record for them in Buckingham Co. Thanks a lot. Kathy H. Brown
Sandra, Thank you very much. I had already found this marriage in the Cumberland Co., Va. records without any date they said the last part had been torn off with age. I thought for a long time this was my John and Susannah but another researcher claimed it for hers and said he died in Jeffersonville, Indiana. She had a son William listed that was alot older and claimed she got her info from his Rev. War. Records and I dismissed it as not being mine as I knew for a ALMOST positive that mine had died in Buckingham Co., Va about 1823. Maybe I should rethink this.?? What do you think. I have found Wills of other people who has children with a John the elder and John the junior or younger or whatever. So it could be possible I guess. I just wish I could find another connection for certain. Thanks I really appreciate it as your information was more informative than what I had found from the Clerks office., Marlene

Hi Ruth: Here is the address to obtain the "Buckingham County, Va. Church & Marriage Records 1764-1822" compiled by Mary Bondurant Warren. When I ordered it this year the price was $12.50, so that could be changed. They have many other books relating to the south. HERITAGE PAPERS P. O. That is very exciting about the picture of Susan Taylor. We don't have anything of her sister Mary Catherine. My cousin said one of relatives had some ear rings that belonged to Frances White Williamson but I never saw them. I think the Taylors did pretty well probably until the Civil War. I would love to have a copy or even a Kinko copy just to see what she looked like. Linda Z. Thanks again.
Dear Linda, Unfortunately, I have to go to work, but remembered something this morning I had forgotten last night. I have tin types of thoma W. Agee and Susan Taylor. Will have to dig them out. Years ago I had some negatives and photos made. The one of her is very dim. Sincerely, Sandra

Sandra, In your research of the Agee Family I am sure you have probably come across the WEST family. I understand from another family that the WEST's was in that line also. I am wondering if during all your research you found a JOHN WEST & SUSANNAH (or Susan). John & Susan had two known sons to me THOMAS WEST b. 1802 and WILLIAM H. WEST b. 1804. They also had a daughter name unknown to me. The two sons left after the death of their father who died around 1823-1824 according to the Tax List. They came to Kanawha Co. W/Va. around 1838-39 This part of Kanawha Co. later became Putnam Co., WV I cannot find anything on John & Susan or their daughter. Would you or anyone have ANYTHING on this WEST FAMILY... Thanks in advance, Marlene WEST Perry
The courthouse in Buckingham burned in 1869. Linda
When James Taylor died there was no mention of a wife. You have probably read the will. He left property to children temporarily because he didn't want them to lose it right away. My cousin thought he had been married twice but I think I found a Milly Taylor in Salt Lake City married to a different Taylor. I will have to find that. I have very little on my computer and it crashed a few months ago and I have hardly anything on computer that I can send you. Will have to send it by snail mail. Will write soon. Linda Z.
