Regarding the Lewis family I would like to point y'all to a book" Jefferson's Nephews - A Frontier Tragedy" by Boynton Merrill, Jr. University Press of Kentucky. It is not genealogy, but history, although you may be able to glean data from it. This is very interesting reading and also gives insight into these families, especially the inbreeding and "traits" that were passed down. Alice in Fluvanna
Since the list is becoming more active again, I thought I would post the two surnames I am researching. If anyone has any information of either of these names in Buckingham or Cumberland County, please contact me. Thanks, Alicegayle@aol.com
My grandfather, John Roy Gormus, ran a mill on Willis Creek. The mill is still standing. In 1950 the mill was over a 100 years old. I believe the mill is in the Marshall District of Buckingham County. If anyone out there has information on the Gormus or Rakes family, please contact me: Alicegayle@aol.com.
My 3G grandfather, Randolph Jefferson of Snowden, Buckingham County, had a twin sister, Lucy Jefferson (both were siblings of Pres Thomas Jefferson). Lucy Jefferson married Charles Lilburn Lewis and they had ten children. Amoung them there was an Isham Lewis (3rd child) and a Lilburn Lewis (10th child. Lilburn Lewis married , 1st, Elizabeth Jane Woodson Lee and 2nd Letitia Griffin Rutter. The name of the wife (or wives) of Isham Lewis I do not know. Does anyone know who she was and did they have children? Also, does anyone kmow when the Lewis' moved to Kentucky and spicifically wwhere? Who of the Lewis' made this move? Thanks, Bob
Is anyone working on the Jefferson, Lewis and/or Henderson lines? Randolph Jefferson (younger brother of Pres. Thomas Jefferson) was my 3G grandfather. His home was 'Snowden' in Buckingham County, he 1st married Anna Jefferson Lewis. Their 1st child, Isham Randolph Jefferson, 1st married Marianne Henderson. Their 1st child was (another) Thomas Jefferson. Does anyone know the name of this Thomas Jefferson's wife and children? Thanks. Bob
Gene There were Stinsons in Smith County Tennessee too, and I am pretty sure they were descended from the Buckingham line. Perhaps a group of Buckingham neighbors and kin moved out there together. Tom
Hi Tom: Thanks for your reply. Buckingham is a hard place to dig out records. I have just recently discovered the Buckingham Land Tax Summaries and Implied Deeds. My CHARLES TALLEY'S son JOSHUA W. TALLEY sold 61 a on Buffalo Creek to your CAREY STINSON in 1819. My Joshua left Buckingham and settled in Smith Co., Tn in that year. I.m not sure where Buffalo Creek and Willis River are located in Buckingham. Good luck in your search, Gene
I believe I am descended from Cary Stinson, who had land on Willis Creek and both sides of Cattail Creek. I have no Talleys that I know of in my family tree, but since many of the Stinson wives' maiden names are not known to me, I could have. Good luck. Tom Stinson
Hi Buckingham Cousins: Did any of your Buckingham ancesters live near Willis River or Buffalo Creek? I am trying to see if it is possible to establish a neighborhood where my CHARLES TALLEY lived. From the "Buckingham Implied Tax List" I find he lived in 1813/1827 on Buffalo Creek near Willis River in Buckingham Co., Va. His land was bounded by REUBEN SEAY, JOHN ADCOCK, CAREY STINSON and others. My Charles Talley b 1760 d 1827 m Sarah Wade and #2 Adocea ? I am seeking parents of Charles Talley and Sarah Wade. Gene
Becky, I had correspondence with Leila last weekend. But I don't know if my John Moore who married Keziah McShan/ McAshan (b. 1775, Buckingham Co. Va.) if John's family came from Buckingham or not. But I thought I'd write and ask what you know about the Moores of Buckingham or the Watkins? Keziah's grandmother was Betsy Watkins. Please see my webpage link to them. It's further down the page to their link at http://www.monmouth.com/~princef/index.html. Thanks
Thank you to all who wrote me in answer to my query about Chambers, McAshan/McShan/McShane. You have helped me find some of my ancestors tonight. Nehemiah McShan and Keziah Chambers, daughter of William Chambers are my ancestors. Nehemiah was the son of Richard McShan. Either Richard McShan or William Chambers was married to Betsy Watkins. Thelma, There are 3 Chambers: 1764 tax list Buck. Co-George Chambers and William Chambers. Tillotson Parish Vestry Book, 3/1786, John Chambers. As signer of a petition to the House of Delegates dated 15 Nov 1794, John Chambers. There is a MACKSHAN, Nehemiah, also spelled Mackshon, as signer of a petition in 1784 and 1786. Hope this helps. Hi Thelma: There is a George Chambers with Littleberry Epperson listed in the Colo. Archibald Cary's Buckingham County 1764 Tax List. There is also a William Chambers listed in Colo. Richard Cock's list for the same year. There are no McShane's or anything that looks or sounds like it. Have a good day. Sam Edens Santa Ana, CA -----Original Message----- From: Thelma F. Hi Thelma, I am corresponding with someone , who is working on this same family. We've been trying to find a Moore connection in Buckingham. Her name is Becky Earnest, e-mail address JCE066@aol.com. If you don't already know her, I'm sure she'll be glad to hear from you. Good luck, Becky
Hi, I'm not as familiar with the Mosley family as my cousin Leila D'Aiutolo. Her e-mail address is LeilaE@compuserve.com. She's done quite a bit of research on the Mosleys. Good luck, Becky

Hi to the list - sorry but my message got away from me - almost never edit online, but was doing it and off it went. Did not mean to send all my notes. Hope it is not too cumbersome for y'all to read. Alice in Fluvanna
