    1. Re: [VABUCKIN-L] Nunnally/Ballow/Ballou families
    2. Hi Wayne: This is exciting! My family left Buckingham Co. right about 1819 for Barren Co. I have some of the Barren Censues, probably including the 1850. The Barnet and Susannah (could this be Stanton, rather than Staton?) is very interesting. Why, because my J. Bernard was sometimes called Barnett, or Barlett, possibly confusing him with James Bartlette Nunnally. The second son of my John Bernard Nunnally and his Ballow wife was Nelson W. Nunnally, who left KY for IN, then settled in IL where he became a State Rep., then Senator. Nelson m. Letitia STANTON Hicklin, who was said by desc. to have been b. in TN and orphaned at an early age and "raised by a family in KY". She was also said to have been a Morgan and a cousin of the Boones. I just learned that she had been the daughter of Lewis Byrum Stanton and his wife, Elizabeth Smith. The Hicklin baffles me so far...could be the name of her adoptive family or and early first marriage. A young fellow lived with them named Francis Hicklin. He was in the Civil War ands his record says he was the son of Francis Marion Hicklin. Now as to Susannah...my William Thomas Ballou, the sone of Charles of Cumberland Co., VA, who removed to another Co. (darnit it won't come to mind right now) anyway, Wm. Thomas married Susannah Hatcher Bransford...coincidence. This Wm. Thomas was appointed by Jeff Davis to head up the Halifax Co., yes that's it, army. Incidentally, I have not only visited Barren Co., which I love, but there is a copy of a little booklet on the "Ballou, Ballew, etc. family of VA and the Southern States" in the Mary Weldon Library, written by my research partner and me. I am also a desc. of Thomas White. Do you know Joe Taylor who lives there? He is a nice guy and fellow Nunnaly descendant I have corresponded with. Jean

    2. Hi Linda: I want, I want it! We must be from allieed families. One of the Nunnalys way back in the early 1700s married into the Womack family in Chesterfield Co., VA. Their son was William Womack Nunnally, a Rev. War soldier. My Ballow line is, I think, allied with the Nelson family and also one of them married a Newton somewhere. Also Frances Jordan m. Robert Wingfield and their daughter m. one of the Rev. Leonard Ballows. The Jordans were an old and illustrious family, of "Jordan's Journey" on the James River. The Agees were also neighbors on Slate R. There is an entry in the Fam. Bible page of Stephen Ballew of NC, Rev War era, which mentions the name "Elizabeth Taylor" with no explanation. Stephen had m. #1 Rachel McWhirter or McWhorter in B.C. and #2 Mary Richman. I am very eager to get your info. Jean

    2. Hi: I am interested in which Guerrant's you have. They are all related to me, I believe. Rene Chastain is the son of Rene Sr. and Judith? OK I have some information off Internet sites but hadn't documented this link. Thank you. Someone mentioned an Anderson site. Without a doubt, it is the Pat Anderson "Everett Anderson Memorial Site". An excellent site for Anderson lore. I have FTM 6.0. Let me ungarble my files. Will contact you again. Thanks all for the help. Carol Oh, and I toured south Hancock County, IL and north Adams County and found a cemetery just full of Ayres. Maybe my sister took note of the exact location if you are interested.

    2. Jean-- My third great grandparents, James Anderson (10 Apr 1763-29 Jun 1830) and Jane Guerrant ( 8 Apr 1769-14 Dec 1844) were also married (26 Apr 1787) by Rev. Rene Chastain. Jane lived on the Slate River in Buckingham County, Virginia. Later she and James lived in Montgomery County, Kentucky, near Bath County, at Stepstone Creek. I sense a blood relationship between either James or Jane and Rev. Rene Chastain, and I have some information on the Chastain family, but I am uncertain who the parents are of Rev. Rene Chastain. Can you tell me who they are? Also, I am searching for the parents of James Anderson in Virginia, possibly in Buckingham County. He had a sister, Nancy Anderson who married John Guerrant. Any clues would be appreciated. Carol

Does anyone know any TAYLORS in Buckingham? My James Taylor children (he died 1847 there) married into Newton, Puckett, Sudsbury,Gibson, Etc. His son Jordan TAYLOR married Frances White Williamson in Charlotte Co. Va. but returned to live in the TALL House (still standing) built 1793. Jordan's children married in to Agee, Womack, Kidd, and others. Don't have my notes in front of me but have the information if you want it. Linda Z.

    3. Jean, I live in Barren Co. Ky. My 4 G grandparents moved here from Buckingham Co. Va (my guess is around 1818 give or take a yr. or two. I have seen most of the Nunnally families and the Snoddy's since they also came from Buickingham CO. and settled here in Barren Co. KY. Have you gotten the info from the 1850 Barren Co. Census? Do you have any idea when your families left Buckingham CO. ? They may have left when mine did. I would love to learn more abt. this. My family that came from Buck. Co. is Barnet & Susannah (Staton) HATCHER. I haven't been able to find out much abt. Susannah. I'm not positive if her maiden name was Staton or someother form of Slaton or Slautor. Her dad was named William. If I can help you in any way let me know. ELEF's dad couldn't read or write, and therefore couldn't spell it for the census officical. The census man just wrote it down like it sounded to him...ELEF...in our good old Southern Ozark Mountain accent. Her name was OLIVE, but it sounded like ELEF when it came out of Dan Sexton's mouth. I read every Buckingham Co., Va., notice/query. My history is tied up in that county...burned records ashes and all. Thanks again. JNRIce +
