    3. Hi Ruby: So many messages lately I can't remember whether you got your answer regarding Rev. Rene Chastain but if you didn't here what I have. Rene Chastain, Jr., son of Rene Chastain, Sr. and Judith (Martin) Gevedon, was born 28 or 30 June 1741, King William Parish, Manakin Town, Goochland County, Virginia. He moved from King William Parish with his parents when he was quite young. They settled in a portion of Goochland County, Virginia, which later became Albemarle then Buckingham County. When Rene was growing up, colonists had few schools. As a result, Rene had no formal schooling. Rene Chastain, Jr. married Mary Ann Faure (Ford) on 1 October 1760. She was the daughter of Jacques Faure and Anne Bondurant. Mary Ann was born 24 February 1738/39 at Manakin Town, Goochland County, Virginia. She died in Buckingham County, Virginia in 1826. Rene Chastain died in November 1823, Buckingham County Virginia. His obituary was dated 21 November 1823. Both are buried near Gold Hill, Buckingham County, Virginia in the Buckingham Baptist Church Cemetery. Children of Rene Chastain, Jr. and his wife Mary Ann Faure/Ford are: Magdaline Salle Chastain - born ca 1761, Buckingham Co VA; died after 4 March 1837, Grassy Creek, Morgan Co KY. She married Joseph Carter, III Stephen Chastain - born November 1764, Buckingham Co VA; died 30 November 1857 in Buckingham Co VA; married Mary Amonet, 13 April 1786 in Buckingham Co VA. Lydia Chastain - born ca 1767, Buckingham Co VA; died 10 November 1805 in Montgomery Co KY; she married Thomas Maxey, 24 December 1789. Martin Chastain - born 30 November 1768, Buckingham Co VA; died 9 September 1816, Owingsville, Bath Co KY; he married Elizabeth Beneica Ayres, 7 February 1793. Elijah Chastain - born 7 September 1775, Buckingham Co VA; he married possibly (1) Betsey Jones, ca 1797 and/or (2) Sally Hannah or possibly Haden. Rhoda Chastain - born ca 1776, Buckingham Co VA; died after 1850 probably in Bath Co KY. She married James Ragland. This is from the book Pierre Chastain and his Descendants. If you need more let me know. 2. Ruby James Anderson and Jane Guerrant had a daughter Martha that married Robert Glover. Robert Glover was the son of Chesley Glover and Mary Guerrant. Mary Guerrant and Jane Guerrant were sisters and the daughters of Peter Guerrant Jr. and Mary Perreau (Perrow). Jane and Mary had a brother John Guerrant who married Nancy Anderson the sister of James Anderson. If you want more details, let me know. Carol

    3. Hi, Sorry I did not answer your Metts question. My Metts clan entered SC in 1740 as what they call Palatines - Lutherans that left the Rhineland because the Roman Catholics were in Bavaria on one side and the RC French on the other. Old King Louis of France gave them a choice - the Gallows ot the Galleys. (They paddle boats in the Galleys. They hang out in the Galleys.) Many Palatines came to America. Some came to New York, or Philadelphia, or to new Berne NC. I have found my line, but I do not think they ended up in Virginia. Many other of my ancestors (The Thomas and Howell folk did) (I have proved 41 Rev. ancestors to the SAR. I hold the record.) Please find out who was the father of my Mary Howell, who came from Buckingham County!!!!! 3. Dear Randy, I have noticed your name several times and on the Marriage Book of Buckingham Co. Va. and wondered if your ancestor could have been related to Floyd L. KIDD in Buckingham Co. Va. He and Martha Taylor were married. Martha was daughter of Jordan Taylor and Frances White Williamson. Do you know who Floyd KIDD might be? It is an unusal name. Jordan is my gr-gr-gr grandfather living to be 100 yrs old. Whole life spent in Buckingham Co. Va. I am planning a trip to Buckingham, in May. Do you have suggestions for research on Buckingham Co. Va.? Linda Zablatnik

    2. Hi Al: Yes you are right on! I have a copy of Jane Thomas' book. Her mother was the daughter of Thomas Ballow [you just have to soundex these names, as Ballowe became Ballow in VA, Ballew in the Carolinas, Bellieu or Bilyeu or Balloo, etc. in others]. Thomas was one of the original Justices when Albemarle Co. was first formed. I am still not sure who the father of my Miss Ballou was, but it wasn't this Thomas, altho it could have been his son or even grandson. There really isn't a Thomas in her children, but one William Thomas in a grandchild. I "think" her father was either Robert, John, or Leonard, although there is Cherokee blood in this line and I don't know the wives of the Thomases [except for Thomas I/Jane] or Robert. So annoying to have all those records missing. So you don't know Linder Metts? He is dsc. from the Couches & James Bartlett Nunnally and a really nice guy. Frankly, I think that the Jesses, etc. were cousins or nephews of Jane Thomas, as families [well, cousins] did intermarry a lot. Also, I suspect that the Woods were related to Abraham Wood. He came from England not long after our original William Ballowe and William gave him or helped him to obtain land and I think he was a cousin or in-law of William's. He was in charge of an early fort or outpost and was a well-known explorer. Jean

    3. There was an ad in The Virginia Gazette newspaper on 28 Nov 1777 "To Be Sold" on 28th day of December, at the dwelling house of Thomas Blakey deceased. He had 200 acres on Arthur Creek of Slate River in Buckingham Co VA called "Fountain Ridge". The land was originally purchased on 8 Sept 1748 (Albemarle Co VA) and patented another 200 acres on 5 December 1749. 3. Hello Jean I will say that your message is interesting! Let me tell you about some of what is in my files. I will put the similar names in capitals to show similarity with your story. A lady school teacher went in a covered wagon to Nashville from Cumberland County. She wrote a book, "Old Days in Nashville" Her name was JANE THOMAS. She never married. She wrote that Sarah (Sally) WOOD came from LONDON, ENGLAND. The mother of Jane Thomas was MICAH BALLEW (sounds like Ballow?) Micah married JESSE W. Thomas, son of my Jesse Thomas who married Sally WOOD. Wow! Please read what I have written and tell me what you think, please.
