Posted on: Buckingham County, Va Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Buckingham/11079 Surname: Adcock ------------------------- I recently came across information that would imply he recruited for the Army. I am hoping this may assist you in finding any information out on this particular George Adcock. I have a George Adcock born early 1740s then one born early 1760s and then one born early 1790s. From Census information I am speculating that the George Adcock born 1760 was the individual that did the recruiting, however that would only make him a teenager. According to the 1820 Buckingham Co. VA and the Shelby Co. KY census there are each a George Adcock Sr. and George Adcock Jr. I am a direct descendant of George Adcock in KY. George had a son named William M. Adcock born KY. My grandfather explained to me that William's son Joel Adcock was his grandfather born about 1836 Shelby Co. Ky and then moved to Henry Co. KY with family late 1830s. As you can tell I have been very fortunate in regards to locating Census and tax information, however I have not been able to identify any of the George's wives except for William's brother George Adcock born mid 1790s and married 1820 to Elizabeth Vest in Shelby Co. KY. To make it even more confusing William Adcock born 1816 KY married Elizabeth Adcock born 1811 VA per marriage bond daughter of George Adcock. http://home.talkcity.com/LibraryDr/ken1967/marriagebond.htm. Any help in locating any early George Adcock information would be greatly appreciated. I am simply running out of resources. Buckingham co., Virginia, 1782. I was then legally authorized to recruit for the army and the said Paslay was sworn in as a regular soldier by Colonel John Cavel of said county and marched from thence to Fredericksburgh and shortly afterward he was marched to the south and was taken prisoner at the siege of Charlestown in South Carolina and I think it was five years or nearly so before he was released and returned home. Posted on: Buckingham County, Va Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Buckingham/11078 Surname: ------------------------- Has anyone in Buckingham County come across listings of Bible records published in FAMILY PUZZLERS, the weekly genealogy magazine edited by Mary Bondurant Warren from 1964 until 1998? I thought that HERITAGE PAPERS went out of business when Mrs. Warren stopped publishing Puzzlers the end of 1998. Not so!! I recently found the new websites for HERITAGE PAPERS as well as for FAMILY PUZZLERS, TNG, the monthly magazine edited by Mrs. Warren's daughter Amy Warren Sanders! Most of the items that Heritage Papers used to advertise in their annual catalog are still available, including back issues of the quarterly magazines GEORGIA GENEALOGIST and CAROLINA GENEALOGIST, lots of historic maps, as well as source materials for Virginia, North and South Carolina, and Georgia. Some bound volumes of Family Puzzlers are still available. For Heritage Papers, go to http://www.galaxymall.com/books/heritagepapers For Family Puzzlers, The Next Generation, go to http://www.galaxymall.com/books/familypuzzlers I just thought you'd like to know! I know some people on this list are looking for the surname Gunn, perhaps from Gunter. A nice woman on the Georgia list posts excerpts from books of early Georgia newspapers. I thought someone on this list might find this tidbit to be interesting: The newspaper is "Georgia Journal" If you wish more of a source citation, please write to me off list and I'll get it for you. 14 June 1815 Greene County [Georgia] Notice; Forewarned all person for trading with my wife Elizabeth,as she has left my bed and board.. signed Jesse Gun... I am a descendant of George Hooper, nephew of Joseph Hooper, and I am somehow not comfortable with the thesis that Joanna Stinson was the daughter of Joseph Hooper. In his will, Joseph Hooper never refers to her as his daughter although he is careful to refer to George Hooper as "my nephew" and to Elizabeth as "my wife" and to Henry Trent as "my son-in-law". There is the possibility that Joanna Stinson was a cousin or a niece since Joseph Hooper's grandmother was "Joanna Hooper". Joseph Hooper had Virginia cousins in the Cabell and Mayo families who shared a descendancy from Joanna Hooper. There is also the possibility, perhaps more remote, that she was the daughter of wife Elizabeth by a previous marriage. Marilyn Symonds
Does anyone know the children of this couple? Did they have a daughter Mary who married William Banton?

Barbara: Well, sort of. I try to keep to my husband's line straight on back and not look for others of the same name As I just said in another message, one Alexander Stinson (Sr.) born ca 1703 landed in Virginia when he was about between 15 and 16 years old in 1719. He appears to be the immigrant ancestor of the Virginia Stinsons. There are many records lost for Buckingham Co. where he lived and therefore there is much which cannot be found. There are "guesses", there are "appears". For instance "it appears that Joanna was the wife of Alexander Stinson Sr. and the daughter of Joseph Hooper. Frances L. Stinson of Dallas TX wrote a credible manuscript on these Stinsons, and the Rev. Charles Stinson may still have some of them left from the Memorial service for the Stinson in the old cemetery. They did cost $l0 each however I don't know if there was any supply left. Posted on: Buckingham County, Va Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Va/Buckingham/11075 Surname: Raikes, Drake, Taylor ------------------------- I'm looking for a picture of Virginia White Drake Raikes who was born in Buckingham, Va. in 1910 & died in 1936. She was married to John Raikes. Her parents were James Allen Drake & Annie May Taylor. Does anybody know where I can get a picture of this lady?
I am Looking for any WEST'S. In particular looking for a female, name unknown born about 1794. Do not know who she married or if she married. She is the daughter of JOHN WEST & SUSANNAH ROBINSON. She was on the census records until 1830 her father died in 1824 and the other three children left Buckingham Co., Va. and came to Kanawha (later became Putnam Co., WV) I have heard that there was a West in the Bondurant line and also the Agee line. So I am looking for any connection with the hope that I may be able to prove the parentage of JOHN WEST also possibly find other connections. I would definetly like to know who this other daughter is. I guess it is possible she may have died about the same time as her father but that is only a theory also. Any West info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Marlene West Perry
