I'm looking for John Taylor, esq. (ca1780-1840) of Buckingham Co., Va. I know he had a daughter Nancy, born in 1800, who married Wilson B Morgan The Morgan family came to Baltimore ca 1840. There two of Nancy's daughters married Duncan brothers from Accomac Co, Va. The eldest daughter Sarah Meritt Morgan published her marriage to James W Duncan in the Balt Sun on Sept.22, 1844. That marriage notice says she was the granddaughter of "John Taylor, Esq. ,deceased,of Buckingham Co, Va.". The fact that Sarah's middle name was Merritt leads me to think that John Taylor may have married a Merritt The only other clue I have is a mention in my grandfather's obit that John's daughter, Nancy Morgan, was a first cousin of Pres. Zack Taylor. All ideas welcomed! Clair

Robert My husband is also descended from Daniel Pierre Forsee. We have traced him back to Manniken Town, VA, but still do not know his parentage. What we have been told is that he was born in Buckingham County, VA. He married Naomi Flowers, daughter of Valentine Flowers, son of Rafe(Ralph) Flowers. The story has been told for 3 generations that 3 brothers came from France during the French Revolution to escape persecution because of their wealth. I do not believe that version, but tend to believe they came over much earlier than that and were French Huegenots. Can you help me out here? Thanks - Lori

Posted on: Buckingham County, Va Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Va/Buckingham/11154 Surname: MOSELEY, JONES, MILLER ------------------------- Thanks Mary for the info. I will update my website. I have found that James S. Moseley b. 1816 died in Springhill, MO 1879. His wife Eliza Jones Moseley died 1872 Springhill, MO. Both are buried in the Springhill cemetary. I suspect that William F. Miller died in Chillicothe MO sometime between 1878 and 1880. He would have been in his late 50s. He was mentioned in a Springhill directory for 1878, but Elizabeth was listed as a widow in Chillicothe MO by the 1880 census. She was living with her youngest son Henry Miller. I suspect that both Elizabeth Moseley and William Miller are buried in Chillicothe, but have not yet found them to verify this. I may be traveling through Chillicothe MO this summer and hope to be able to find out more. Thanks again for your help, Betty Tartas

Benjamin Wilson Moseley 19 April 1836 - 1898 [Benjamin was Sallie's grandfather.] Letters of William exist, but I can't recall where just now. I'll think on it and get back to you. There are many Wilson letters from the late 1700's to 1830's written by Sallie's father and uncles and grandfather Benjamin Wilson to Sallie's uncle living in Kentucky. They exist and I believe they are at the university in Lexington, KY. I have transcripts of most of them. If you wish further descendants of these children I can provide them later. Leila, by the way, compiled the monumental co-authored 2 volume set we published on the Moseleys. She, William Hubard [recently deceased], "Tuck", and I combined our many years research on Moseleys and we are all Moseley cousins. Volume One runs about 870 pages, including index and the other is comparable. These are still in "notes" form, but use a genealogical program as a print platform. Best regards, Mary Carolyn Mitton
Posted on: Buckingham County, Va Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Buckingham/11152 Surname: VENABLE ------------------------- Frederick H. MURRELL was reported, in his obit, to have been from Buckingham Co. Frederick was born around 1800. He was in Lynchburg in 1818, m. Elizabeth M. VENABLE there in 1821, and died there in 1842. I have been unable to find his parents or siblings. There was a Cornelius MURRELL who was listed in Buckingham Co., 1800 Tax List as 1 white male and 1 horse. Is he the same as the Cornelius MURRELL who bought land in Amherst Co. in 1785, 150 acres previously taxed to Henry ROBERTS and was on the Amherst County Land Tax list in 1789, 1790, 1791? Could there be a connection between Cornelius & Frederick MURRELL? Both Cornelius & Frederick were witnesses together on wills, inventories and land deals in Amherst Co. in the 1830s. Any info will be grately appreciated.
Posted on: Buckingham County, Va Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Va/Buckingham/11150 Surname: Moseley, Saunders, Wilson ------------------------- Thanks Mary for the good info. I only have one question--Did Sarah Wilson Brown have ANY children with William Francis Moseley? I have my gggrandmother Elizabeth Moseley as his youngest daughter b. 1818. Mary Saunders died about 1822, which means that Elizabeth would have been 3 years old. I have found numerous conflicting dates for William's marriage to Sally Wilson. I have these children attributed to William Francis Moseley: Sarah Moseley b. 1793 Grandison Moseley b. 1799 William C. Moseley b. 1801 Letitia Victoria Moseley b. 1810 John Arthur "Jack" Moseley b. ? Mary Magdalene "Polly" Moseley b. 1814 James S. Moseley b. 1816 Elizabeth Moseley b. 1818 I have seen many different years attributed to Elizabeth r.e. birthdate, but I am certain that the 1818 birthdate is correct as it corresponds with later census data. For instance Elizabeth age 62 is listed in the 1880 Chillicothe MO census as a widow living with her youngest son Henry Miller. My Moseley info comes mostly from researcher Leila D'aiutolo. I have heard it mentioned that William Francis Moseley was a prolific letter writer, and I am wondering if you know if any of his letters survived and where they can be accessed. Also I may be going through VA this summer and would like to know if you can recommend any resources or genealogical societies that could help me find more about this family. Thanks again, Betty Tartas in WA state

Posted on: Buckingham County, Va Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Va/Buckingham/11147 Surname: Moseley, Wilson, Saunders, Miller ------------------------- William Moseley, 10 May 1744 Chesterfield County, Virginia - abt 1847-51 Buckingham County, Virginia. His first wife was Mary Saunders who died 13 June 1822 in Buckingham. That she is the mother of Elizabeth is proved by a letter written by William to his brother John Moseley on 02 Jan 1839. In part, he writes "All my children by my first wife has [sic] left me except my youngest daughter Elizabeth Trabue." Do note that she is named Elizabeth Trabue after the Huguenot ancestors. I personally have no proof that the Mary Saunders is the wife other than the notes of my greatgrandmother Florence LaSalle [Moseley] Pratt, 1855 - 1951. Now the second wife Sarah Wilson, first the wife of Benjamin Brown, is the daughter of James S. Wilson, a grandfather of mine. Millers? I haven't any info on them, but will keep my eyes open.

I am a descendent of Wilson Hix, presumed to be the sheriff at the time of the CW surrender. Wilson owned the Clover Hill Tavern, and he is the earliest Hix relative that I have traced. With the name of the cemetary, you and I may be related. Much obliged, Brett
Posted on: Buckingham County, Va Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Va/Buckingham/11144 Surname: MOSELEY, MILLER, GUERRANT, JONES ------------------------- Hi Mary, I have a fairly complete lineage for the Moseleys and Guerrants back to England and France. My great x2 grandmother's name was Elizabeth, not Eliza; Eliza was the name of her sister in law Eliza Jones who married James S. Moseley. Both families moved to Springhill Livingston Co MO by about 1841, and lived very close by each other for many years, thus the confusion I think. I have tons of info on Elizabeth Moseley Miller, daughter of William Francis Moseley, including transcriptions of about 25 Civil War era letters and census records. Please check out my website at http://www.fidalgo.net/~tartas/index.html Click on Mother's line Do you have any verification that Elizabeth Moseley's mother was Mary Saunders? I have her mother as Sarah Brown Wilson, but have no verification on this. I am STILL trying to find the parents of William Frederick Miller, husband of Elizabeth Moseley, who was also from Buckingham Co VA. I suspect that his father may have been Thomas Miller; brother John Frederick Miller who married a Guerrant. Still haven't been able to verify this. Any ideas?
