    1. [VABUCKIN] Re: Edmund Davis - VA, KY, IN
    2. I am looking for info on an Edmund Davis. His dob was June 10, 1807. I know that this is not your Edmund but I wasn't sure if maybe he could be related to mine. I don't think that Edmund was that common of a name. Too, my Edmund lived his life at least after 1850 in neighboring Fluvanna County. He married Nancy Garner in Campbell County in 1827. If you find anything that may connect, your Edmunds parents or grandparents, could you please let me know. Thanks Tracey

    2. Michael S. Beckley
    3. Edmund Glover and sons of the same name were in Buckingham County, Va. in late 1700's through mid 1800's(2-3 generations).Posting(s) on Genealogy.com mentioned a Thomas Glover as a son of the eldest Edmund Glover(1751-1814). My Thomas Glover was born around 1812 and married in 1837 to the daughter of Samuel Bocock in neighboring Bedford County. Edmund Glover's son Edmund is listed on the same page in an 1830 census listing as Samuel Bocock's brother John Bocock in Buckingham County. My Thomas Glover was in Kanawha County censuses in 1840/1860, Gallia County Ohio in 1850, Mason County WV in 1870. His son Samuel G. Glover was in Kanawha or Putnam County censuses in 1860 and 1870 and in Gallia County Ohio from 1880 through 1920 Soundex. Do you or anyone else have any information that might connect my Thomas Glover to the Edmund Glover family that you've discussed on Genealogy.com? Please e-mail me at [email protected], thanks, Mike Beckley

    1. [VABUCKIN] Re: George Adcock missing wife
    2. Hi Ken, There were many, many, many Adcock's in Buckingham Co. Apparently, allot of them stayed in VA and did not move to KY. The Adcock's cross with my BRYANT line many times in the 1800's and all are from Buckingham. A couple of examples are....George Adcock, age 18, Farmer, married Sarah C. Beasley, age 18 on 12/26/1877. They were married by E.C. Trivillian. George's parents were George and Isabella Adcock. Sarah's parents were R. Morton Beasley and Malissa Beasley. Sarah's big sister, Ann Eliza Beasley (my great grandmother) married Henry Clay Bryant, Sr., (my great granddad). Also, Elmore Adcock, age 22, Farmer, married Cassandra Bryant, age 19, on 4/1/1872. They were married by Joseph A. Crowder. Elmore's parents were J. and Martha Adcock. Cassandra's parents were William and Eliza Bryant. I'm sorry I don't believe I have any information on the George Adcock (and his missing wife) that you are looking for, but, if they're from VA I'll be glad to look for th! em the next time I go to the Library of VA. I go about once a month. Give me the place and date if you want me to take a look for you. Have you seen any BRYANT folks in your research? Sandy [email protected]

    1. [VABUCKIN] Re: Patteson family
    2. Gosh Sherri, I don't know where to begin. Everywhere I look (it seems) through Buckingham County records I see the Patteson name. They were everywhere in the county. For example, my G-G-G-Grandfather, Henry K. Bryant, served in the Buckingham Yancy Guard, 56th Va Infantry, Company D. They were led by Col. Camm Patteson. Did you have any questions in particular? I'm fortunate in that I live and work near the Library of Virginia and I'll be glad to look up something for you. Also, if you'll look in the census records at Ancestry.com for Buckingham County, Slate River District, I believe you'll come across many Patteson folks. I've also noticed that Slate River was not the only place they were seen. They were all over the county. Let me know if I can help you. Sandy Bryant-Valk

    3. To (first name not remembered) Symonds: We had an exchange of messages some time back and Louise Stinson's name was mentioned and I sent a copy of your msg to her. She was very interested, but very ill then. It has taken her quite a time to re-coup, but last night I rec'd a phone call lfrom her wanting to know your address so that she could get in contact with you now that she is better (but not entirely well). I had deleted the msg from you, thinking she had all she needed, but she has misplaced your address and is now inquiring about it. Will you please send to: Frances L. (Louise) Stinson, 3536 High Vista Drive, Dallas TX 75234-7926. It would be nice if I could get in on the tail end of any decisions you two make !!!! In other words, copy me if you will. 1. [VABUCKIN] FYI - Fee for copies of social security applications to increase 7/01
    2. Mary D. Taffet
    3. Hello subscribers, I am writing to all of the mailing lists that I administer (which means some inevitable duplicate posts for some you) to inform you, in case you haven't already heard, that the fee for requesting copies of Social Security Applications is being raised on July 1st, from $7 to $27. So, if you have been thinking about requesting some copies, you should have your requests postmarked before July 1st in order to get your requests in at the $7 fee which is good for requests postmarked through June 30th. Most of the sites that have a searchable SSDI database also include a link to generate a request letter for you. The sites I am aware of that offer a searchable SSDI (Social Security Death Index) database include: http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/vital/ssdi/main.htm http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/fto_ssdisearch.html http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp (choose the US Social Security Death Index link on the left-hand side of the page) Requesting a copy of the social security application for someone whose record you find in one of these search engines is straightforward. To request a copy of the application for any other deceased person, you must first provide proof of the number and proof of death (which I just might do for my grandfather -- I have his original card and a copy of his death certificate). For persons whose ancestors changed their surnames, this can be an invaluable source of information. The most recent copy I received showed that my husband's grandfather (known to most people as Irving Siegel) was born with the name Samuel Saminowitch -- I never would have learned that any other way. And his grandmother, known as Minnie Hummel, was shown as being born with the name Minnie Homlevsky. So, for fairly recent immigrants (i.e. since late 1800's, early 1900's), it is definitely worth having. For others who are not immigrants -- the social security application will generally contain the names of both parents, including the maiden name of the mother. This information has been invaluable to me so far in my research. Can you tell that I'm in favor of requesting copies???? -- Mary Taffet List Administrator for 12 mailing lists [email protected]
