Because Johnson is a good subject for the day, I have a Mary Johnson, age 55, living in the household of Charles T. Toney in 1850. There is also Elizabeth Bagley, age 25. I believe this is Charles' mother in law and sister in law. Does anyone have anything on this family?

She has a lot of info regarding Amos Lipford and his descendents including some photos. I am looking for info for one of his grandsons, DGWI (George) Lipford from Florida. The 1885 Jackson County census shows him married to a Bettie with 4 children. Do you have any information on these Lipfords? You can email me at [email protected] Thank you, Georgia

I know that the Wilkerson family was from Buckingham County (or lived there at this time) and that it was usual for children to be given names that referred to their "family". Below is the will - please let me know if you know anything about this Wilkerson Murrell. It covers land frequently referred to as TILLTOSON which is the name of the Parish. There are no major cities or large towns in Buckingham County the largest being the county seat of Buckihgham. My grandmother, Judith Staton, was living with or on the property of a Johnson family in Buckingham County (New Canton) at the time of her death in 1884 - aged 80. See below. I have just begun to try to figure out who this Johnson is/was. Any ideas you have will be much appreciated. My great-great-great grandmother was Elizabeth Smith, wife of Joseph Nuckolls. They were married, probably in Buckingham, sometime around 1820, when he came to Buckingham from Louisa County. I strongly believe that she was the daughter of Nathan Smith of Buckingham County. Nathan was living about mid 1700s to early 1800s. The oldest child of Joseph and Elizabeth was named Nathan William Nuckolls; William I presume is from his father. The 1810 census confirms a daughter in the household of Nathan Smith at the right age. Does anyone know anything about the family of Nathan Smith?

Gunter born 1760 King William Co, VA found in the 1850 Buckingham Co, VA Census is NOT the same man as Thomas F.Gunter b 1767 in VA found in the 1850 Blount Co, AL census. I myself descend from Thomas F. Gunter born 1767 in UNKNOWN COUNTY, VA who died in Blount Co, AL ca 1855 through his son William b 1804 VA. Thomas Sr. b 1767 VA removed first to TN and then to what is now Blount Co, AL in 1817. Please see post #87 on the Gunter Genforum for my list of his children. After 20 years of researching this family have not found any Indian connections. Thomas was married to Sarah (last name unknown) born ca 1790-1800. She died between 1830-1840 in Blount Co, AL. Many years ago I thought she was a second or third wife and that comment comes from my old family group sheets that have been passed around. Now it appears she could be his only wife. As of this date the parents of Thomas are unknown as is the place of his birth in VA. I am still researching every Gunter family in VA. How do you descend? If you send me your line will put you in my Gunter family computer file. Please send address as well for reference. Janet Burks [email protected]

I have many BRYANT questions, but here is one: Robert H. BRYANT b 25 Jun 1842 d 20 Jun 1914 married first Isabel CREASY. He married second on 11 Nov 1868 to Nancy Jane HARRIS. Who were his parents? I have his mother's first name as Martha but nothing else. I don't have anything else on Isabel. Who was she? Nancy Jane HARRIS was the daughter of Dabney HARRIS & Frances SCRUGGS. Who were their parents? I cannot go back any further on the HARRIS or SCRUGGs family. Another researcher mentioned a FORD connection. I am a direct descendant of James FORD who died in Buckingham Co, VA in 1810, so I am interested in FORDs from this area. Thanks, Ruby Talley Smith

Finally, the trail of elusive Martha Damron and James Staton has appeared. I will appreciate any and all help in tying together the loose ends. My efforts have failed to obtain Microfilm Reel 360 of the Land Office in the Archives Division of the Virginia State Library, 219. ESSEX County, 15 May 1750. Apparently people could and did receive grants of land in counties where they did not reside, but if James and Martha were living in Essex County in 1750, other records regarding them may be there as well. James and Martha are believed to have had sons named Joseph, John Rane, and James and daughters named Betsy , Sally and Nancy. VA Land Office Records at the Library of VA show James (Jr.) received a grant of 194 acres in BUCKINGHAM County adjoining James Sr.'s September 9, 1811 (Grants A-Z, 1-124, reels 42-190, Grants 125-, reels 369-. Also on Oct 13, 1795, James was granted 2150 aacres in BUCKINGHAM County on the northeast side of the lower fork of Rowan Creek (Land Office Grants nO. 33, 1795, P. 226 (Reel 99), Microfilm Grants A-Z, 1-124, reels 42-190, VA State Land Office Grants 125-, Reels 369-. Also William Staton on Maay 1811 granted 150 acres in BUCKINGHAM County adjoining Capt. John Staples, James Staton andothers. Land Office Grants NO. 71, 1810-1811, p. 513 (Reel 127) Microfilm Grants A-Z, 1-124,, Reels 42-190, Grants 125-, Reels 369-. Buckingham County VA shows James Staton (m. Martha Dameron/George Dameron) 1774 Tithable 3. I have seen indications that James and Mary moved to Kanawha County VA in 1789, which later became West VA, but could not verify this. Also James is reported to have received a warrant signed by Rolfe Eldgidge for the government to pay James for food bought to feed British soldiers in its custody as they were being taken north. Any and all help will be exceedingly appreciated! Bill
