Regarding my earlier post on Judith Falwell, I just noticed that it was kind of screwey as I had her husband as William when according to her death record he was Jordan. You'll have to forgive me as I was sick when I posted that and it made no sense. Below is what I have on Judith Falwell Going. Regarding the post by Gloria, I have not been able to document that Jesse and Jordan Going are brothers. There is quite a bit of speculation that they are, however, I have no way to prove it one way or the other. Supposedly there was a deed in Appomattox that clarified the children of Jordan Going, however, I have been unable to find said deed. Also I do not have any proof on Judith Franklin being the daughter of Judith Falwell. There is a possibility she could have been a granddaughter as the ages in the census records are all over the place. She aged 20 years between two census takings. If anyone has a death date for Judith Franklin or those listed as her sisters (Mary A. & Elizabeth ?) then I will be happy to check for a death certificate on my next trip to the Library of Virginia. (NOTE: the death date would have to be between approximately 1915-1939 in order to have a certificate). Hope this makes more sense. 1. Thanks Kim.I am a double Goin. I have seen your site at rootsweb. But you have taken it off the rootsweb site are you going to put it out again? Jesse Goin is my 3r Ggrandfather who married Lucy. I think this is how it goes doing it from memory .Jesse Goin and Jordan Goin were brothers am I right.? Judith Goin daughter of Jordan Goin and Judith Falwell married William Franklin . William Franklin and Judith had John William Franklin (The Liberty Baptist Church records say John Franklin middle name is William not Walker which the family thought that was his name.) he married Fettna Goin daughter of Doctor Merry Goin . Doctor Merry Goin son of Jesse Goin.Do I have that right? Now I have a little bit of info. I found a Jesse Goin married Jenny Ailstock in Albemarle Va. Could that Jesse be the same Jesse Goin who married Lucy.? Could Jesse Goin who married Lucy have been married before ?. There have been some people who seem to think Jesse Goin who married Jenny A! ilstock is the same person who married Lucy. But no proof. I have the marriage lis of John William Franklin and Mary Louise Goin married her after Fettna died. There was a 30 year difference in their ages. He lied about his age on the marriage certificate. She was called Dona or Dony. She is listed on the census records as Dony Franklin living with a Goin family. So she may have taken the name Goin from her Uncle or relative she was living with. Want some more info on the above.?e-mail me if you like.Thanks.Gloria gjarrell@pivot.net ~Wehali Usdi~<Look not at the Eyes but at the Soul>

I descend from Samuel Falwell (1792 VA - 1845 TN). For more details you can refer to my previous postings. I believe that your ancestor was closely related to my ancestor. Most likely Samuel was Elisha's Nephew or possibly cousin. Either way they were undoubtedly related. Delineating the relationships of the early Falwells of Virginia is challenging. I have a theory that I have discussed with other Falwell researchers. Perhaps it will be of some help for you. Please keep in mind that it is a hypothesis only and subject to revision. Any information to support or refute my hypothesis would be greatly appreciated. According to Goochland County, Virginia Tithe Lists, 1735-1749. James Nowlin is associated with William Fallwell. In 1749 the Last Will of James Nowling of Goochland County names a daughter as Judith Fallwell. Could this indicate that William Falwell was married to Judith Nowlin (daughter of James Nowlin)? This seems possible if not likely. It seems that William moved to Buckingham County sometime over the next 15 years, indicated by the following Tithe Lists of 1764 Buckingham County, Virginia. Genealogical Records of Buckingham County, Virginia 1764 List of Tithes Name #tithables #acres carriages William Fallwell 2 0 0 and Henry Fallwell Buckingham County Virginia Church and Marriage Records 1764-1822 Buckingham County 1764 Tax List William Falwell & Henry Fallwell * William is head of household. His service records indicate that he died Oct 4, 1777. Considering that Henry is closely associated with William and he was young enough to serve in the War, I assume he is the first-born son of William. John Falwell appears for the first time in 1773. I know nothing else about John. I assume he is also a son of William. Since Henry and John never appear at the same time, could they be the same person? James Falwell appears for the first time in 1774. He is listed as a tithable of William Falwell in 1774 but not in 1773. This indicates that James turned 16 years old in 1774. This corresponds to his Revolutionary War records that list his birth year as 1757. According to the Personal Property Tax Records of Buckingham County, one can see William's Family growing. Richard appears in the first Tax Record in 1782. He must have been at least 16 years of age at this time. He is listed as > 21 years of age in 1785. Therefore he must have been born after James (1757) but before 1764. William Jr first appears in 1785 and is listed as > 21 years of age. Therefore he must have been born prior to 1764. John appears again in 1787. Is this the same John that last appeared in 1773-1774? David first appears by name in 1789. He is listed in the household of William Falwell. He actually appears for the first time in 1787 but is not named. In that year he is listed between the ages 16 - 21. Therefore David was born between 1771 and 1766. Elisha first appears in 1797. Extensive genealogical research has been done on Elisha and his descendants. He was born in 1776. He moved to Tennessee sometime after 1807. Elisha died there in 1857. Could Elisha have been the son of one of William's sons rather than William himself? James appears to be the only real possibility, but he was only 19 when Elisha was born. This makes me think that Elisha is more likely the youngest son of William Falwell, Sr. William, James, Richard, John, William Jr, and David all appear sporadically throughout the years until 1795. In that year both William and John disappear from the tax records. They never appear again. During the same year that William and John disappear, a woman named Judith is listed. This indicates William, John, or both died sometime between 1794-1795. Judith must be the widow of one of these men. Since William has been associated with a Judith in the past, I assume that Judith is the widow of William. So where are we? I've also wondered if our line of Elisha is somehow connected to the Joseph Fallwell family also living in Marshall Co., TN in 1860. As I recall (??!) this fellow is from NJ or something like that?! It seems odd to me that two families with a fairly uncommon surname would end up in the same rural TN county unless there was some connection. I also wonder if our Elisha and this Joseph are also related to the famous Philadelphia professional artist Samuel Folwell (note spelling) (1764-1824). There is a good story (with photos of their works) about Samuel and his wife Ann Elizabeth in the Feb. 1981 issue of "The Magazine Antiques". He and his wife ran a school to teach needlepoint etc... to young girls... If Joseph is indeed from NJ he is probably a closer relative to Samuel than Elisha, but the Philadelphia to VA to TN migration was a very common trip for many of our TN ancestors and I wouldn't be surprised if t! hey were cousins of some type. Maybe if enough people read these queries and know of any males with the Falwell/Fallwell/Follwell/Folwell surnames they can convince them to participate in a DNA test to establish connections?! I recently did it for my Jones line and it did establish a rather surprising circa 1700-1800 PA to NC to TN connection! In the meantime, we can just keep searching and hoping! Good luck, Dave
Does anyone have further information on the following Thomas men from Buckingham Co. who were veterans of the Revolutionary War? How are they connected and to what families do they belong? My ggg grandfather was named Alexander Stinson Rogers. Our family of researchers feel there must be some connection to an Alexander Stinson, as they name doesn't appear in our family otherwise. So the question arises: Was he related to an Alexander Stinson? Or was that someone the parents' admired and he received the name? How many Alexander Stinsons were there? It appears there was one or more in Buckingham Co. VA. If that is true, who were they and when did they live in Buckingham Co? Father & son? Or ???? Are there any descendants on this list? Thanks for any help or suggestions... !!!! Ellie Swanger
