    1. William Moore of Brunswick to NC ca 1741

    3. I am researching the Bowens who moved from Bristol Parish to Brunswick Co in the mid to late 1730's, and probably settled on the Meherrin River just west of the present Brunswick Co border with Lunenburg and Mecklenburg where their land records placed them by 1745. Robert Bowen's wife's name from the Bristol Parish records was Avis. William Bowen's wife's name from the same source and from later deeds was Amy. The earliest William Bowen patent was on the north side of the river very near James Mize's land (Mize's Ford) and James Voughn's homeplace land in what is now Lunenburg Co. This James Voughn d 1735 Brunswick Co. However, Robert Bowen held land by 1753 on the south side of the river near Eagles Nest Creek. No records have been found to explain when/how Robert Bowen obtained his land. William and Robert Bowen appeared several times in the early Order Books of Brunswick Co. One record could possibly point to some kinship between Robert Bowen and William Moore. Does anyone have any further information on this William Moore? Where was he from? Where did he go? Who was his wife and any other family members? Why did the court believe that Robert Bowen would be in a position to garnishee and hold William Moore's estate? OB 1 p 460 (This page itself was undated, but the last date entered was on p 417, dated 3 Apr 1741, and this entry appeared to continue through and beyond p 460.) Upon the attachment obtained by Theophilus Field against the estate of William Moore order'd that Robert Bowen garnishee of the sd William be sumon'd to render an account of the sd Wm his estate according to law. OB 2 p 25 (This page itself was undated, but the last date entered was on p 5, dated 2 July 1741, and this entry appeared to continue through and beyond p 25.) Upon the attachment obtained by Theophilus Field from John Wall Gent. a member of this court against the estate of William Moore who is said to be privately removed out of this colony into North Carolina so that the ordinary process of law cannot be referred [reserved?] on him, for five pounds current money this day came as well the said Theophilus by Clement Read his attorney as Robert Bowen garnishee of the sd William in his proper person and the said Robert being first sworn declar'd that he had none of the goods or chattels rights or credits of the said William in his hands in his possession at the time of the levying the said attachment. Therefore it is consider'd that the said Robert go hence without day [sic] and that the said attachment be discontinued. I am also interested in any early records concerning the Kirks, Andrews, Vaughans or any family in which the given name Avis/Avice was used.
