Hi Nita, The state of Virginia kept death records in register form from 1853-1896. Due to budget cuts at the time the state of Virginia kept no death records between 1897 and June 13th of 1912. Then on June 14th they started keeping deaths again but this time in the form of death certificates which continue to the present day.
