    1. Re: [VABRUNSW] Cocke and other families
    2. There was probably a Cocke ancestor that the child was named for. These early families tended to honor relatives in this way. My family descends from the Webb - Cocke line. Early years of Isle of Wight, VA mid to late 1600's. Deanna

    2. Harvey L. Bottoms
    3. Jeanette, There are two possible reasons. 1) They are Cocke descendants or 2) Since the Cocke family was one of the early Virginia families and very prominent, it was to honor that family. Similarly I have found a number of George Washington's, Thomas Jefferson's and even James Pinkney's, all of which honor those people. 1. Re: [VABRUNSW] Va. Death
    2. Hi Nita, You can obtain certified death certificates from after 112 from the Virginia State office of vital records, here is a link to their website: http://www.vdh.state.va.us/misc/f_08.htm On there they tell you several ways to obtain certificate fromthen, in person, by mail or even phone. Also the Library of Virginia in dowtown Richmond on East Broad Street for the last couple of years has had death certificates on microfilms from 1912-1939. And they also have at LVA death records on films from 1853-1896. That is where I get mine for those time periods. 2. Hi Nita, The state of Virginia kept death records in register form from 1853-1896. Due to budget cuts at the time the state of Virginia kept no death records between 1897 and June 13th of 1912. Then on June 14th they started keeping deaths again but this time in the form of death certificates which continue to the present day. God bless, Beth familytr@att.net > > Does any one know when death first had to be reported in Va. > I have been unable to find any record of my great grand mothers death in > Brink Va. > between 1919& 1924. > Nita in NC > > > > ==== VABRUNSW Mailing List ==== > Brunswick County VA Resource Page ~ Links, searches, & more! > http://resources.rootsweb.com/USA/VA/Brunswick/ > List Manager's email VABRUNSW-admin@rootsweb.com > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 >
