Tom - one thought on "Gallie;" since the John's mother lived in a "plantation style manor" where the abandoned mother and daughter visited (with a not so gracious hostess/m-in-law, apparently) it could be that was the name of the plantation as they were given names in those times, and if that was John's family home it would seem a likely place for his marriage to take place. Perhaps a search of VA historical places might yield a clue. A Google search will get you to the National Register of Historical Places and you might find something there under the state of VA.
