Classification: Census Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GBC.2ACI/1076.1 Message Board Post: I ran into this problem when I first started; I finally made a conclusion [may or maynot be right] that for the Blueridge areas and north/west of there you need to search PENNSYLVANIA, OHIO, AND KENTUCKY in the 1800 and sometimes the 1790. Some areas were classified by the "??" as being counties and not in the "state" as we view it today. Kentucky was a Virginia County before it was a state. Confusing! Try to find some maps on the Land Grants by the Ohio Company, the Penn Grant and such and perhaps you might get a better view of the areas around your search. It helped me quite a bit. Regards, Linda
