Dear List, I've been trying to determine where in Botetourt Co my great, great grandfather and his family lived during the years 1845 - 1861. My ancestor was John Click b. 1815 married to Sarah Miller b. 1820 both from Rockingham Co. I have them in the census for the years 1850 and 1860 living in Botetourt County. Unfortunately, the census lists the location as District 8 and then nothing is written on the other. I thought to look in the tax lists hoping for a location and ordered a film from the Family History Library - "Personal Property Tax Lists 1783 - 1851" I ordered 1838 - 1848 and 1849 - 1851. The tax lists were divided between two men and my ancestor shows up on the list of John T. Wilson, Commissioner. At the end of 1845 on the last page it says, "..amount of capital stock in the Fincastle and Blue Ridge turnpike $8000". So I am assuming that John Wilson's area was between Fincastle and Blue Ridge turnpike. I've tried to figure out where/what Blue Ridge turnpike is and found a Wikipedia entry that says it is a "census designated place". I am not finding a Blue Ridge, Botetourt Co and am turning to the list for any help or suggestions. Robin Poeschek Kamloops BC .
Check on www.mapquest.com Key in Blue Ridge Turnpike You should find what you need.
