I have a copy of the deed of sale for a family member on 12 July 1796. Is there some way I can find the original purchase papers or deed for the land that he sold, so that I will know when he bought it? Thank you, Pam

Pam, You need to get the Index of Deeds for Grantees for your family member's surname for the period prior to the sale date and then just search down the list until you find the listing for the original purchase. The Index will then give you the Book and Page number for that deed and you can order it from the clerk of the court.
