My 4th great grandparents are John Custer born 31 Aug 1784 in York Co., Pa. He died 2 July 1863 in Warren Co., Tn. He is the son of Johannes Custer and Anna Catherina Gohn. (Coon) He married Mary "Polly" Smiley born 8 Feb 1787 in Va. She died 10 Aug 1863 in Warren Co., Tn. His father Johannes Custer (Custard) left his will in 1838 in Botetourt Co., Va They lived east of Fincastle near the Mill Creek section. Mary "Polly" Smiley is the daughter of James Smiley and mother unknown. The Smiley's and Custer's lived in Botetourt Co., Va. in the 1770-1780's. They lived near Fincastle. I am trying to find who James Smiley is and his parentage. In Virginia there was Alexander, Andrew, Daniel, Walter, Sr. and Walter, Jr and James Smiley. They were in Augusta, Rockbridge and then Botetourt County, Va. James Smiley would have to have a birthdate of 1767 or earlier.
