Google "Botetourt County Virginia" You should get a county site with links to the Historical Society and the Genealogy Society. There is lots of good info on the sites. At the courthouse are two ladies, one is Loretta Caldwell, whose purpose is to assist genealogist. I believe Loretta has an e-mail address and you could write her ahead of time for her thoughts. She is quite knowledgable in the records available. Also Rena on the Botetourt County Rootsweb site--she is webmistress among her many tasks there is quite knowledgable on Botetourt County. My caldwells migrated to this area from Cubb Creek in Charlotte County Va and I have many fond memories of going to my great-uncles farm on the Island here. You also mentioned going to the Va room at the Roanoke library. It is very good. Also if the church records you happen to be looking for the diocese archive is in Roanoke but it is only open one day a week unless you make arrangements ahead of time. Have a great visit to a beautiful part of our state and enjoy the scenery and people while you are there.
