In the 1900 census, Curtis Claypoole, age 32, single, was still living in Columbus, OH. In the 1910 census, age 42, still single, he was living in the Fincastle District, Botetourt Co. On Jan. 5th, 1920, Curtis, age 52, his wife Nellie (Millie?) D., age 30 and their two children, Mary Cinderson Claypoole, b. Oct/Nov 1918 & James Claypoole, born Sep/Oct 1919, were living in the Fincastle District, Botetourt Co. Curtis' occupation was "Auditor" at what appears to be "Princess 700" - presumably this was either a mine or furnace. By the 1930 census, Curtis appears to have died as had his daughter Mary, for only Nellie/Millie/Nellis Claypoole, age 38 and James Claypoole, age 10, were enumerated at Glen Wilton, Fincastle Dist., Botetourt Co. This James Claypoole is the 6th grandson of James Claypoole, 1634-1687, Quaker merchant, friend of William Penn and a founder settler of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and is a 3rd grandson of Captain Abraham George Claypoole, Continental Army, 1777-1783, as was Reginald Claypoole Vanderbilt, c1880-1925, father of Gloria Vanderbilt of New York. Any further information on the above Claypoole family would be most appreciated.
