My best guess was County Monaghan because it had the most clerkins in it but did find the birth of a Patrick Clerkin in Sligo. From: Drover54 To: CARROLLOUC Sent: 3/3/2008 1:37:38 P.M. Pacific Standard Time Subj: Re: Clerkin CLERKIN, Patritium Christening Gender: Male Christening Date: 13 Aug 1824 Recorded in: Taunagh, Sligo, Ireland Collection: Roman Catholic Father: Michaelis CLERKIN Mother: Mariae KERIN Source: FHL Film 989737 Dates: 1803 - 1834 I only find this one for the right time. Since My Patrick was illiterate (as were most people at the time) he may not have known just how old he was. We think he was b about 1827-9 so this person could be he, or it could be someone entirely different. I have found no indication that either he or Martha Cahoon were Catholic. I know my great grandmother, Ellen was not. I haven't tried to dig very deep into this line yet, just a query now and then hoping for someone to have some knowledge. If he followed naming patterns Ellen could have been his mother's name and some of his children could be named after other family members he left behind in Ireland. I do know some of the younger children were named for Martha's family. I would like to think my Patrick and your Peter were related - that would be cool but I am afraid it will take more research than I am able to do with failing eyesight.
