I descend from Patrick Clerkin and Martha Cahoon/Calhoun. They were my gr gr grandparents. I can account for all of their children and grandchildren except a son, William. I don't know when or if he ever married. In 1901 he accompanied the body of his mother, Martha from Oregon back to Missouri, He may stayed there or returned to Oregon but I don't really know what happened to him. Martha was b about 1830 in Glade Creek, Botetourt Co., VA to John Clemmons Cahoon and Elizabeth Icenhower. Married to Patrick Oct. 4. 1850 1. As for Patrick Clerkin, I don't know where in Ireland he came from. He apparently immigrated in 1847 and may have arrived in the port of New Orleans. Family lore says he was accompanied by a sister, Mary but I haven't found any information on her. Would certainly love to know where he was from and who his parents were - possibly County Monaghan or Cork. The Clerkins lived just South of Glade Creek. Botetourt Co. in Roanoke Co. Patrick enlisted in the 28th VA Infantry about 1862. They removed to Chariton Co., Missouri in 1870 where Patrick d about 1898. Martha came to Oregon with her three sons and died in Backer City, Baker Co., Oregon Aug 2, 1901. My gr grandparents, Charles & Ellen Clerkin Jessup came to Baker City about 1901 and on to Portland, OR by 1907. The children of Martha and Patrick Clerkin are: Ellen, b 1852 in Roanoke Co. Mary Margaret b 1854 Matthew, b 1855 Anne, b 1856 Patrick, b 1857 (died young) William, b 1858 Andrew Lewis, b 1861 Carroll Cooper Summers Oregon Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
