"Hotel Botetourt was built in 1851 by Mr. Jacob A. Haney. It had twenty-three rooms. Among the famous people who have registered there are General Robert E. Lee and Jubal A. Early. John Robinson of the Robinson circus family was born in the hotel. It has had numerous owners and is presently owned by Mr. C.C. McDilda." This information was taken from the Botetourt Bicentennial Book that was published in 1970.
