Peter Whooley (of Botetourt County) paid to the Governor of the Commonwealth of VA 2 pounds sterling for 400 acres of land in KY, about 1778-1779. In another transaction, he purchased land using "five shillings Current money of the State of Virginia," and a "Gilding of paying therefor the Rent of one pepper Corn on Lady's day next..." Could someone please tell me how these amounts inter-relate, and perhaps their approximate equivalents today? Curious, too, as to when and what Lady's day was. Thank you, Bryce Stevens
