At what age would a young lady need someone to consent to her marriage in the late 1700s to early 1800s in VA? I have numerous marriage records with the father, mother, or an older brother consenting to the marriage; or someone stating that the woman is over 21. Unfortunately, I don't have birthdates on these folks. Can I narrow the birth date down by assuming that if someone had to consent, she was less than 21 years old? Thanks, Mark
