He married PHOEBE DALERN TAYLOR February 12, 1776 in New Hanover Luthern Church in Montgomery County, PA. GERMAN CHURCH RECORDS, Vol. 2, New Hanover Lutheran Church: Samuel Abendson married Phoebe Dalern Taylor, 12 Feb 1776 Confirmations dated 14 May 1775: children of Reinhold Abendshonn: Samuel, age 21; Dorothea, age 18; Elizabeth, age 16 Samuel Abendshon was the only son of Reinhold to serve in the Reveloutionary War.from PA Samuel was a member of Capt. Samuel Sands Company, 1777-1780, and also took the Oath of Allegiance on May 25, 1778, before Jacob Weaver. (Attested, same as above Reinhold, by same Mary Ellen Frescoln of Berks County Historical Society, Book D, Volumn I, page 57.) Samuel Avenshine was appointed Lieutenant of the Fifth Company (Douglas Township) Fourth Battalion, Berks County Militia, 1784, Captain Samuel Sands. (Pennsylvania Archives 1783-1786, page 331.) Samuel and Phoebe were married at the Lutheran Church in Montgomery Co., PA, in 1776. They were members of the Lutheran Church in New Hanover, PA, and resided in Berks Co. and Montgomery Co., PA. Around 1790-95, Samuel and two of his brothers and a sister moved their families to Botetourt Co., VA, near Fincastle. Samuel and Phoebe are probably buried in the Mill Creek Baptist Churchyard, or somewhere near-by. Many Obenchain burials are located there, but exact burial sites have not been verified. One of the early "Samuels" gave the land for the church. During the Civil War, there were at least 27 soldiers with some form of the Obenchain name serving in the army, and most are buried at Mill Creek. Phoebe died in Botetourt Co., VA on 16 June 1820. Samuel's will is on file in Botetourt and a copy of it appears in these individual cards. WILL of SAMUEL OBENCHAIN--abstraction.
