Susannah Kessler dau. of Johannas Kessler and Eva Dorothea Lehman. Many Clare researchers would like to know the name of his first wife, reportedly named Cox. Jacob Clare b. 1788 d. before 1845 Mont. Co, VA m. Mary "Polly" Simpkins, dau of James Simpkins and his wife Sarah Lawrence. He later married Patience Butterfield. John Gardner Clare b. 12 Oct 1828 Botetourt d. probably TN in 1906 m. after census of 1850 to Sarah Susan Wort dau. of David Wort (Wertz, Wert, etc spellings) and Matilda Custard b. 1812 d. 1888 Roanoke, dau. of Joseph Custard and Martha Cleage(Clegg) dau. of alexander Cleage, Clegg and Susannah Moore.
