    3. I also would like to know about the data base. We lived in Salem VA nearly 30 years ago, and I used to go to the Roanoke Library to do research. They had a marvelous library then, but I was still working in Tennessee. Now I know I was pretty close to home for my family, and probably missed a lot of good data because I hadn't gotten back that far. I'd love to be able to use their database. Sure hope it can be accessed online. My main interest is Charles Coheran(Cochran)married Nancy Tenant, Rockbridge Co, Va 1799. Her father is listed as Thomas Tenant. I have been unable to find anything on the Tenant/Tennant line. I was hoping that the Thomas Tennant who married Charlotte Pullens might have been a brother or cousin to Nancy. If you are willing I would be overjoyed to have the information you possess on Thomas and Charlotte. Maybe it will lead to what I need. - I know it has been a long time since you posted this message - I hope you are still in the ancestor hunt. 3. Annemarie, I just found this obit in my files. It may be of some help regarding the children of W.R. Carper. I believe this obituary is from the local paper of the time (Fincastle). MR. WYNDHAM RANDOLPH CARPER Mr. Wyndham Randolph Carper a well-known citizen of Botetourt county, died at his home in Gala, Sunday morning, July 26, 1925, following an illness of several months, due to the infirmities of old age. He was born, November 2, 1840, and was therefore in his 85th year. While a cadet at V.M.I., in 1861, he volunteered and went to the front with the Fincastle Rifles, one of the first units to enter the service from this county. He served through the four years of the Civil War and surrendered with General Lee at Appomattox in ’65. He was wounded three times, twice at Gettysburg, and once during one of the battles around Richmond. After the surrender he returned to Botetourt and engaged in farming. Mr. Carper filled positions of trust in the county, was for about forty years a member of the county school board. He had been a member of the Presbyterian church for many years and was an estimable citizen. He took great interest in the affairs of the county, and for many years he was regarded as a leader in the community interests. He is survived by his wife, two sons, Mr. J. B. Carper, of Louisville, Ky,, Mr. R. W. Carper, of Coal City, Ill., two daughters, Miss Mary Carper, Gala, Va., and Miss Bessie Shelby, of Shelbyville, Ind., and one sister, Mrs. J. Reid Wills, of Louisa county, Va. Funeral was held July 27th from Galatia Presbyterian church and was attended by one of the largest assemblage of neighbors and friends known in that community for many years and was conducted by Rev. L. H. Paul of Clifton Forge, Va., assisted by Rev, J. A. Armstrong of Fincastle and Rev. J. H. Bean, Covington, Va. The active pallbearers were his nephews, viz: Messrs. D. H. Echols, J. H. Bean, G. M. Buhrman, Geo A. Buhrman, Wm. Hannah and J. S. Wills.
