Trust me the Genealogy Club is very active - taking photos of the cemeteries in Botetourt County so they can be posted on line to help people find their ancestors and kin folk. Does anyone have the e-mail address for Loretta Caldwell at the Courthouse? I checked the Botetourt County Virginia website and could not find any current information on the Genealogy Society. There is a listing for a Genealogy Club, but it is inactive. Is there an active one and if so how do you contact them? You will, no doubt, get a zillion responses. The Virginia Room is good, but don't pass up Fincastle. Several years ago a gentleman from Daleville undertook to index all of the Circuit Court records books. He did a great job, and it is now very easy to search all court proceedings as far back as when Botetourt was formed. Hello List - I will be in Botetourt and Roanoke City next month. Does anyone have any tips as to where I can find probate records and church records? Should I work at the court house in Fincastle, or are copies of their records available in a better research environment? I will check out the Virginia Room at the Historical Society. The period I am working in is the 1780's, looking for George & Mary (Davies) Gray, especially the names of their children. George Gray/Grey left a lot of court records in Greenbrier but was married in Botetourt. He disappears from Greenbrier around 1800 and may have died in 1823, possibly in Botetourt. Possibly born ca 1750's, married Mary Davies/Davis in Botetourt Co., 24 Feb 1778 (VA Marriages by Vogt). I am trying to prove George & Mary are the parents of my John Gray b. Jan 1785, m. Susanna Thompson in 1816 and came to OH shortly thereafter with the James Thompson family. I am descended from John's second marriage in OH. Susanna died 1843, Millcreek Twp., Union Co., OH..
