Hello, I am researching the family of Mary Louise Barnett (1917-1982) and Clarence Everett Barnett (1916-1987). I have found a great deal of information concerning the family of Clarence Barnett, but have found little information concerning the mother of Louise Barnett. The only thing that I have found so far is that the mother of Louise Barnett was Louise Jackson, and that she died shortly after Loiuse Barnett was born. Louise Barnett's father's name was Allen Hamilton Barnett. The children of Mary Louise Barnett and Clarence Everett Barnett are: Letitia, Melvin, Louise, Clarence, Malcom, Mary, Allen, Madeline, Maxine, Constance, Michael, Angela, and Beverly Ann. I am trying to identify the William INGLE that fought with Capt. William Foreman at Mc Mechen Narrows. Capt. Foreman is listed in "West Virginians in the Revolution" and the "DAR Patriot Index". The Hampshire County GenWeb Page shows: "The Battle of McMechen Narrows on 27 Sep 1777 is not officially considered part of the American Revolution for some reason. I am looking for any information about MELINDA ADELINE DAMEWOOD, born 9 April 1850 died 1919. She married JAMES DOWDY (have no information), they had two children LINA B. DOWDY born 1872 died 1949 and THURSETTA CATHERINE (Etta Kate) DOWDY born 1869 died 1929. I have Melinda's father as PARKER DAMEWOOD. I also have a cemetery stone for a ANDERSON A. DAMEWOOD born Aug. 19, 1865 died March 16, 1931, thinking this possibly might be a brother? Melinda married James Dowdy then when he died she married JOHN DOGAN. John is suppose to be buried at Daleville Cemetery. Not sure if there is a cemetry there or maybe it was a family plot. I would think that James Dowdy and Melinda Adeline Damewood were probably married sometime abt 1868 or 1869? Death of James Dowdy about abt 1870. Don't know if it would be Roanoke or Botetourt county.......maybe another. Giles etc. As you can tell I don't have much information to go on with this family. I am searching for information on Solomon Simpson's family, who died in 1785 in Botetourt Co., m. Margaret Elliot with children Solomon b. 1770 & Elizabeth m. Thomas Otey. Solomon Jr. m. Elizabeth Lantern March 21, 1793 and he d. 1859. Their children: Fanny b. 1793; Sarah "Sally" b. 1795 m. 1) Harrison Hipes, 2) James McNeal; John Simpson m. Hannah Evans; Solomon b. 1798 m. Mary Black; Thomas b. 1799 m. Paulina; Levi b. 1809 m. Julia Ann; Samuel b. 1810 - 1820 m. Lavina Bedin. I was told that my Henry Simpson was related to this family by a descendent of Samuel. Henry was b. 1806 in VA according to 1870 & 1880 Greene Co.,TN census. I have traced land Henry sold in 1831 (no record of his buying it) to a John Simpson who bought the land in 1797 from William Galbreath, who received it as a NC Land Grant in 1795. Any light you can shed on the Solomon Simpson Family and the connection to my Henry Simpson will be most welcome. Hello Frank & Botetourt rooters, There is a series of historical maps prepared by the late John Hildebrand, longtime student of VA history, at the Roanoke Valley Historical Society. The Botetourt map covers the dates 1770-1820 and is 22"X22". Many of the landmarks that you mentioned in your message are noted on the map, including the original Borden Tract, Hall's Bottom, Switzer Mountain, Lapsley (or Persimmon) Run. You can order these maps from: Roanoke Valley Historical Society PO Box 1904 Roanoke, VA 24008 540-342-5770 (they do take credit card orders by phone) Most of the maps are $6 ($4 for members) - other counties: Augusta, Bedford, Fincastle, Franklin, Montgomery, Rockbridge, Roanoke, Wythe counties. The original Benjamin Borden Land Grant, 92,000 acres of an original Augusta Co. deed, (6 Nov 1739) is also available. On a side note, I was just in Botetourt Tuesday to get some records for my family. I copied an 1803 deed in which my ancestor, Christian Shank, bought land from Peter Nofsinger. Hello everyone, I am trying to find info on the Simpson and Deweese family lines. My greatgrandparents were Charles Henry Simpson (1891-1969) and Cora Deweese (1897-1985).
