I am searching for information regarding the ancestors of Rev. Archibald David THOMAS. This is what I know so far: Archibald David Thomas was born March 9, 1811 in Botetourt County, VA and came to Jackson County VA(now WV)when he was a young man. He married Sarah Elizabeth(Sukey)Rhodes. They settled on the Elk Fork of Mill Creek, Jackson County. After Rev. Thomas' conversion, he was largely instrumental in the organization of the Elk Fork Methodist Protestant Church. The had 6 children: (five of which I know of) Henry C. Thomas b. 1833 William H. Thomas b. 9-11-1836 Celinia A. Thomas b. 1838 Robert Crawford Thomas b. 1845 (my ancestor) Sarah E. Thomas Rev. Thomas died October 17, 1891 and is buried at the Halbert Cemetery, Elk Fork Road, Gay, WV. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tom Whited

I am researching my ancestors who lived in Botetourt County from abt. 1760-1779. The names were Philip and Mary Cooper. Philip served in Dunmore's War out of Botetourt. His wife marry moved to Amherst County after his death (abt. 1779). They may also have lived in Augusta County. Mary Cooper remarried William Powell after the death of Philip. Surrety: Jacob BISHOP (b. @1755). Botetourt 1770-1820 map done by Hildebrand indicates a parcel owned by John Kessler 1790 near Stony Battle/Battery Creek. Cindy, Thank you for your response concerning the MountainView Cemetery in Buchanan,Va. Apparently MountainView Cemetery is the "black" portion of the Fairview Cemetery in Buchanan. I don't know of how long it has had this name, but not too many people seem to know about it. I do think that they are considered different cemeteries. Someone else has referred to Mountainview as the upper portion of Fairview. Some of the graves go back to the 1700s and many of the graves no longer have any markers on them. We are still trying to find a list of the people buried there. Thanks again.

Hello, I am trying to find the parents of William S. Richardson (1778 - after 1870) of Botetourt Co. He married Damaris Booth May 18, 1820, dau. of Alexander Booth and Tempy Hix/Hicks of Surrey Co. VA, in Botetourt Co. A William Richardson is mentioned as a son of Joseph/Joel Richardson in a deed/estate settlement in the early 1800s. But since there are 2 or 3 William Richardsons in the county, I am uncertain as to whether or not it is the same one. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Mary

Hello, I am trying to locate the records for the persons buried in the Mountainview Cemetery in Buchanan, Va. I could not find a phone number for someone to contact concerning this cemetery. Apparently this cemetery is not really kept up anymore. My grandparents were buried there in 1982 and 1987. I imagine they wanted to be buried there because their families are buried there. I believe that this cemetery only contains African American people. I contacted Rader funeral home in Buchanan (they buried my grandparents) but they could not help me concerning this cemetery. Does anyone know who is the custodian of the records to the Mountainview cemetery in Buchanan, Va?
