Dear Karen and Jan, Here is what I found on Rev. Edward Crawford. He was called to the Sinking Spring and Spreading Spring Presbyterian congregations in 1778. He was allowed to marry people in 1781 by the court. In 1782 he stopped his labors at Sinking Spring and was employed part of his time in the Locust Bottom. He joined the Abingdon Presbytery in 1794. He married Jane McDonald in 1795. There was a period of time before he joined the Abingdon Presbytery he was not consider a minister. My information was not sure how long he stayed at Locust Bottom. The Spreading Spring and Sinking Spring congregations formed the Fincastle congregation either under Rev. Crawford or in the time period before the next pastor Rev. Robert Logan came in 1803. The Presbyterians that met at Mary McDonalds were known as the Denean Church. I hope this helps you. I enjoyed looking up the information. My part of the family are still Presbyterians. Esther
Hi! I created a new genealogy home page. My primary surnames are ROGERS, PECK, LAMAR and BROWN, but my pages include many more surnames. I list information on my earliest ancestors, related books by author, related links, published stories my dad has written about his childhood experiences, many graphics, music, a querybook you can sign, and some cemetery information. I will be adding family photos, newspaper clippings and related links for starters. Even if you aren't related, I think you would enjoy visiting my pages. Hope you visit soon! Seeking information on my ancestors who resided in Botetourt County from about 1760-1780. The surname was Cooper and the first names were Charles, Philip and James. Philip served under Matthew Stewart in Dunmore's War. He was also a surveyor in the Ohio Valley. The men were chased out of the Ohio Valley by the Shawnee and camped at Muddy Creek in Botetourt. They built a Fort there and it may still be standing. I would like to have information on my ancestors and also the Fort that was built there. Please e.mail me privately. Thanks to all. Anita Wills

Karen, There is the Fincastle Presbyterian Church which was built on ground that was a grant from the English Crown to Israel Christian. The building was constructed prior to the American Revolution and was used by the Church of England. In the grounds surrounding the church there are graves that date back to 1795. I don't have an address but the phone number is 540-473-2042. Good luck in your search. Lynda Troutt Murphy
There was a posting of Grahams in the last two weeks, and I inadvertently deleted it. Would someone please post it again? Thank you. Sue Johnson

Samuel Sands Company, 1777-1780, and also took the Oath of Allegiance on May 25, 1778, before Jacob Weaver. (Attested, same as above Reinhold, by same Mary Ellen Frescoln of Berks County Historical Society, Book D, Volumn I, page 57.) Samuel Avenshine was appointed Lieutenant of the Fifth Company (Douglas Township) Fourth Battalion, Berks County Militia, 1784, Captain Samuel Sands. (Pennsylvania Archives 1783-1786, page 331.) Samuel and Phoebe were married at the Lutheran Church in Montgomery Co., PA, in 1776. They were members of the Lutheran Church in New Hanover, PA, and resided in Berks Co. and Montgomery Co., PA. Around 1790-95, Samuel and two of his brothers and a sister moved their families to Botetourt Co., VA, near Fincastle. Samuel and Phoebe are probably buried in the Mill Creek Baptist Churchyard, or somewhere near-by. Many Obenchain burials are located there, but exact burial sites have not been verified. One of the early "Samuels" gave the land for the church. During the Civil War, there were at least 27 soldiers with some form of the Obenchain name serving in the army, and most are buried at Mill Creek. Phoebe died in Botetourt Co., VA on 16 June 1820. Samuel's will is on file in Botetourt and a copy of it appears in these individual cards. WILL of SAMUEL OBENCHAIN--abstraction. I am looking for any infor re: Joseph Bechtelheimer son of John and Elizabeth Bechtelheimer. >>He was born in 1770 or 71 Botetourt County VA. >>He married 18 March 1793 to Christina Lazena. >>Wife Christina Lazena was born sometime between 1768-1771 in Virginia. >>Assuming Joseph is the eldest son, his parents, John & Elizabeth were probably married after 1765. There are some 60+ variations to the Bechtelheimer surname: (may also be Behymer, B'Heimer, Beckelshimer) Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com
