My gggf, David PALMER was in Botetourt Co, VA from about 1820 to 1840. His daughters were married there. Harriet m. Caleb SINCLAIR in 1823. Lucinda m. Jared POTTS in 1826. Adelaide m. Henry DAVIS in 1840. David was bondsman on all and my ggf, Joel Palmer, was bondsman for Harriet. Joel moved to Callaway Co, MO about 1830. Does anyone have anything on David? One source says he was "from New Jersey" and married Ruth Davis. Don Palmer
The folks at rootsweb.com who provide the facilities for this list have added a new wrinke to the listserve software. From now on folks who have their email programs set to add an HTML version of their messages following the plain text posting, will have their messages returned to them. There's supposed to be a webpage at URL: www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/listowners/html-off.htm That will explain how to change the "Preferences" of most of the popular email programs around. A beautiful new library has opened in Buchanan, Va. I am not affiliated with the library, just a cardholder. I want to encourage everyone to stop by and support the revitalization effort in the Town of Buchanan. There is a limited amount of genealogy research material. I do not know the proceedure to donate genealogical work to the library, but there surely is a need for it. People have to go to Roanoke to the Virginia Room for any extensive research. Thank you for reading this.Rena Researching JEWELL, HATCHER, HOWARD, HALL, FARLEY, GRAHAM, BOOTHE, HICKLIN, GREEN,BAXTER, BISHOP, COLLINS, CUNNINGHAM, SMITH, BOYER, TYNAN, THRASHER , COX, OBENCHAIN, AKERS, ALTIZER, VANOVER doreatr@rbnet.com rena@genealogy.org

I am looking for information on Frederick Black, Sr. and Jr. who lived in Botetourt County about 1790. Frederick Black was originally Frederich Schwartz. Frederick Sr. died there in 1817. Frederick Jr was married to Susannah Snider in 1804. Other names appeared on documents executed by Frederick Black as witnesses, John Black and Christian Black. Where do the fit in to the family? I would also like to know Fredrick Sr's wife's name and the names of their children, and anything else that fits in.

Looking for information on Andrew Allen. At this point, all I know is that Andrew ALLEN married Lavina Roberts in March 1823 in Franklin County, VA and William Allen posted the bond for him. I don't know if William ALLEN was father, brother or even cousin. I don't even know if Andrew and Lavina actually lived in Franklin County so I'm also checking other nearby counties. Andrew and Lavina eventually settled in Illinois where they had a son in 1841 named Joseph Sidney Allen. Do these names ring a bell with anyone? Does anyone have a connection with Andrew ALLEN or Lavina ROBERTS? Does anyone have any ideas on where I can check for more information? Thanks in advance for any help. Mary Allen

Hi everyone I am so glad that this is available since I am living in Georgia and it is hard to get to Roanoke, Va. to do any research although most of my family lives there. The names that I am researching are the Burgers, the Foutzs from Bonsack and the Gradys. My Granddaddy was Leslie Fogus Foutz who was the son of George Foutz and Maggie Pifer Foutz. I have not been able to go to much farther back with this side of my family. My granddaddy worked for the N & W railroad and was the brother of the man who started the Foutz Sausage Company in Bonsack. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much. Bonnie Moore

I just found a major clue that might help me break through a long-standing brick wall, and need the help of some kind soul for some lookups. If anyone has access to records for Botetourt County, could you please scan the "H" section and see what you can see for a Benjamin or John HERBERT or HOLBUT or HOLBERT or HALBERT (you get the idea!)?? Any name starting with an H that ends in some form of -"bert" will do! Oh, the date range would be late 1700s. If anyone either knows about this family or has some access to will or deed abstracts, marriages or other records for Botetourt County, I would be forever grateful for your help. We have been searching for our HOLBERT ancestor high and low throughout Virginia, and never thought to look for HERBERT. It might not be the same, but the John HOLBERT in question was married in 1792 in Amherst County, and we have found no trace of him prior to this marriage bond.
