Hey folks, Without trying to ruffle anyone's feathers, can this thread be moved to the GEN-NEWBIE-L@rootsweb.com where it more appropriately belongs? I think that it is way off topic for this list. Please direct any responses to my post to me at cletus@clee.org and _not_ to the VABOTETO-L@rootsweb.com list. Thanks, Cletus Lee
I received this message on the side. What is MIME format? I never heard of it. I received the message black on white. Please educate me. thanks. Hello All, Researching the VA names: DAY...BOOTHE...BROOKS...WEBSTER...WHITLEY...PEAVEY...LAHUE Would appreciate any info regarding these families. E-Mail: LikeWhatIB@aol.com
This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --part0_904544174_boundary Content-ID: <0_904544174@inet_out.mail.aol.com.1> Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Bob, You or your server did it again!. Your response sent to me, is being forwarded back to you. It, also, is black printing on dark purple background, and in MIME format (I think). Before reading your response, I had already drafted the message below, which I am going to paste in here: Mr. Cooper: Did you originate the e-mail being forwarded below? It is in MIME format, multi-part. I'm asking you, since you show up as FROM: in the headings at the bottom. It showed up in my mailbox from VABOTETO-L@rootsweb.com maillist, with black printing on very dark purple, and almost impossible to read. I B&W printed it out B&W OK, but it is full of what I assume is MIME coding; that makes it difficult to follow the original message amongst all the coding. If you did not originate the message, can you tell who did? I get several messages like this a week, and usually just delete them. This one annoyed me in particular; I decided to find out who sends such messages, why they do it, and, hopefully, to get them to send no more like it. I responded by forwarding it to the sender and to VABOTETO-L; have had several responses from subscribers of the latter. Have had some interesting responses: 1. Most agree it is the original sender's fault; 2. One said MIME format is not allowed by the maillist, and should have been bounced back to the sender, which it was not. 3. One blamed it on my server, AOL, and said I should chew AOL out about it. 4. Several said the message I had forwarded to them via VABOTETOT-L maillist, was also black on blue, and in MIME format. They were just as annoyed with it as I was. Point: it is NOT my screen color gun, as you suggested. The problem is at YOUR or YOUR server's end, not ours. I receive about 150 e-mails a day, and yours are the only ones like this. End of pasted message; continuing on with my thoughts: Suggestion; you might send a test message to several recipients, and ask if they have the same problem. One of these should be to VABOTETO-L@rootsweb.com, since the latter may be the cause of the problem. Are you sure you are not causing the problem. I have no idea how to send a message in MIME format, but you might unknowingly be doing it. Whatever you find out, I'd appreciate hearing it, for my own education. In this way, if I receive another like it from someone else, I'd like to help them out by telling them what they or their server are doing wrong. This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --part0_904438757_boundary Content-ID: <0_904438757@inet_out.mail.aol.com.1> Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII I REPLIED to this before, but meant to FORWARD it as I am now doing, so that you can (maybe) see how I received it, -i.e, black printing on a dark purple background, which makes it almost impossible to read. Since I sent the previous message, I have printed it out on my B&W printer. It printed out B&W OK, but is in MIME format, multi-part, and full of what I assume is MIME coding. Who decides to put it in MIME format, multi-part? --the Sender, or the Server? In either case, WHY? Did you receive this MIME format, multi-part, forwarded message from me, as I received it? Am looking for descendents of Peter HAMMON(D) and Margaret HOUSMAN. Margaret HOUSMAN was daughter of Christian HOUSMAN (first HOUSMAN in Botetourt County, donated land for Brick Union Church) and wife Eve REICHERT. She was born 27 Jul 1800, either in Berkeley County VA or Franklin County VA, and died 26 Jun 1889 in Botetourt County (buried in the Hammond-Henderson-Housman Cemetery). Peter HAMMON(D) [have seen name spelled both ways] was son of Peter HAMMON and Barbara HYPES/HIPES. He was born around 1793, died 22 Mar 1850 in Botetourt County. Peter & Margaret were married 25 Mar 1822 in Botetourt County. I know of 6 children. 1. Mary S. HAMMOND, married John M. CROSS. 1 known child, were there more, who were their descendents? 2. Lewis HAMMOND, died as a child 3. Sarah Jane HAMMOND, married Ralph HENDERSON. 4 children: (Martha Virginia who married Christopher LIPES, Louise J., who married Allen W. FINCH, James P., who married Minnie JONES, Elizabeth "Bettie", who married James William MCFERRAN). I have very little on their descendents. 4. Martha Amanda HAMMOND, who married 1. Robert James THRASHER (2 children: Henry THRASHER, who married Lulu Clark PRICE, Fannie THRASHER, who married Joseph BREWBAKER [who were his parents??]). married 2. Martin Van Buren HICKOK, 4 known children: Bettie Virginia, who married John Thomas ALLEN, William James, who married Josephine Laura HURT, Joseph Hanston, no known marriage, and Margaret Jane, who married James T. QUICK. Again, I have next to nothing on their descendents. 5. Elizabeth HAMMOND, who married Henry E. SMITH. I have nothing on Elizabeth and Henry other than a marriage date. 6. Charles HAMMOND, died young. Does anyone recognize these families? --jennifer E-mail: jennifer.lyon@mci2000.com

Hello folks! I am the VAGenWeb archive file manager for Botetourt. If you have any transcriptions, abstracts, etc you wish to be included in the archives, please let me know. I also manage Rockbridge Archives. We have a lot going on there. The list is currently looking through their files and coming up with some Bible records. If this list would care to do the same, just let me know. I am putting hard copies of the Bible Records in theRockbridge Area Genealogical Society Files. I can do the same for Botetourt if you all have submissions. I just uploaded some Bible records to the Botetourt VAGenWeb site this evening. Angela
Hello List, does anyone have any information on Hannah Patience Horton who married Miles Terry in Botetourt Co on Jan 30 1782. They had 7 children, Annie, Miles, Jr, Susannah, Isaac, Thomas, William and Hannah. Information on Miles would be helpful, also. I think his father was William Terry, who was married to Rachel ?. KESSLER Jacob Kessler Jr. b. 1790 d. ca 1877 m/1 Bot. Co 13 Mar 1813 catherine Bower b. c 1794 d. before 1819 m. 2/ Bot. Co. 6 Oct 1819 Barbara Bower b. 1800 d. after 1877. catherine was du. of Christopher Bower. Barbara was dau. of Phillip Bower. In 1822 Jacob and Catherine's brother, George Bower, acquired 78 acres on back Creek, and in 1824 he bought out georges interest. He conveyed 10.33 acres of this land to his son, Benjamin, who acquired the remainder from jacob;s heirs. In 1849 catherine's brothers and sisters sold land from their fathers estate to John Bower.William kessler signed as heir of Catherine. These land transactions prove that Jacob Jr had children by two different wives. Hope this might help in some way. Karen Kessler Cottrill WV Kessler Family Historian
