    3. Hello: I am researching all Canterbury/Canterberry families that have lived in or moved through Virginia. I am particularly concentrating on the families of John Canterbury who married Nancy Lowe, and Samuel Canterbury who married Jane Dick. I know that descendents of these families as well as related families moved through and lived in Virginia. Some are said to have been born or married in Botetourt County. I am willing to share information with anyone researching these families. I am looking forward to hearing from you. Ida Mae Washington State

    2. This is my most wanted person in VA. Can you help? Henry Simpson may have a connection with the Solomon Simpson Family of Botetourt Co., Va or Fincastle, VA. Would you have any information on this Simpson? I would appreciate anything you might have. He lived most of his life in Greene Co., TN, but from 1870 and 1880 Greene County, TN Census, he was born in VA and so were his parents. However, in 1850 Greene Co., TN Census, he was from NC and in 1860 Census, he was from TN. I don't know if he was born in VA and his parents went to NC and then TN, but it might be possible. I have a lot of information on him since 1827 when he married Anna Carter in Greene Co., TN (She was the daughter of Ezekiel Carter b. PA and Martha Patsy Stanley (b.VA); and granddaughter of Abraham Carter b. NJ and Prescilla Bennett b. MD;and g-granddaughter of John Carter who migrated to TN in 1781 from NJ). Some of the families his children married into were: Anderson, Carter, Harrison, Harmon, Myers, and Simpson. Thank you for any help you can give me. Barbara Simpson Baker

    1. New book: Bath Co Will Bks 5 & 6
    2. Holly Wanless Cochran
    3. (My apologies if this is a repeat; I never saw the first one go by.) A new book is available to help you untangle the many intermarried families of the Bath Co, VA region. Since Bath Co came out of Augusta, Botetourt, and Greenbrier counties, and originally contained portions of Alleghany, Pendleton, Highland, and Pocahontas counties, you'll find many families from those counties in this book, plus a few folks from adjacent Rockbridge Co. Following Jean Bruns's abstraction of Will Books 1 through 4, this book takes Bath Co through the 2 decades before the War Between The States, the War itself, and the post-war reconstruction period. Most valuable, it includes many names from the critical pre-1850 census years (before the census listed every name in the household). --------------------- Abstracts of Bath County, Virginia Will Books 5 and 6 (1843-1875) compiled by Holly Wanless Cochran ISBN 0-9666399-0-1 - abstracts of the entire contents of Will Books 5 and 6 (March 1843 through September 1875) of Bath County, VA, in one 282-page volume - contains wills, estate inventories (names only, not estate contents), estate sale buyers, heirs mentioned in estate settlements, guardian bonds for minor children, records of commitment for insanity, children born out of wedlock, land sales, slave sales, slave emancipations, marriage contracts; licenses to operate various businesses, perform marriages, or be a minister; bonds to guarantee performance in public office; powers of attorney for distant heirs to receive their portion of an estate - 5 indexes, glossary of legal terms, explanation of probate process See this web site: http://id.mind.net/~cochran/hollyhock for more details, including a sample page from the book, an order form, and a special offer for free shipping for books ordered by Sept. 15.
