Now, all I have on Befird is his mother's first name, which is Frances. I have no maiden name, or any other info other than an estimates date of birth from census records in Botetourt that shows her living in his household in the 1850 census. Her age lists as 60, so this would make her born about 1790. But I have NOTHING else. There is also a Elizabeth Darr/Dorr that keeps coming up in this family in 1850/60/70/80 census' as either living with them, living in the next household to them, or living in the next household with one of Beuford's daughters taking care of her. I have come across Demerius Emmaline in my searches, but now I can't remember what it pertained to!! yuck! I have put the genealogy on hold till after the holidays and the company has left. Have not worked on it since October. I'm looking through my notes and cannot find any notes on Demerius. I believe...if I can recall...that someone who is subscribed to the Ancestry.com ! thingy was assisting me in sending the 1840-1920 ACTUAL photocopied census records and doing soundex searches, etc....she had much more luck than I would ever have. So, with that in mind, I am going to pick up where I left off with the Murphey family...which is Beuford. It is frustrating to have so much on his children to me, but nothing before that. He was born in 1810 in Amsterdam, Botetourt Co., and his mother's first name was Frances, born about 1790, do not know where.... Lisa

I have more on the Seslers but absolutely nothing on the Murphy/Murphey family. Maybe Demaruis and Beuford were siblings or cousins. What else do you have from the family bible? I bellieve that Demarius died in Lake County, Ohio in 1872 where she lived with her daughter Sophronia Sesler Hawley. I should be able secure a death certificate and hopefully her mother and father will be identified.

I have a "Kanawha County Family Tree Project" that indicates that Thomas and Dolly also had a Ferdinand Davidson in about 1832 in Botetourt County, VA. He married Martha A. Carey and later an Elizabeth S. Carey (on September 18, 1876 in Putnam County, WV). A separate marriage record that I found shows this Thomas Davidson as Thomas M. Davidson (and shows him marrying Dolly in 1827). The 1820 Botetourt census shows a Thomas Davidson. The 1830 Botetourt census shows a Thomas Davidson AND a Thomas N. Davidson (I wonder if one is a son). Another Botetourt marriage record shows a Thomas Davidson marrying a Betsy Hagan in 1830. I wish I could sort out these two Thomas Davidsons and determine for sure who the father of the older one was. Bill Davidson

    3. Its so good to find others researching Myers in the area. I have seen your William Myers in the 1810 Botetourt census but do not think it has anything to do with my Myers who don't show up until 1840. I do show a William Myers born about 1810 and he married a Susannah Sarver in either 1Aug1839 or 29July1838. I keep a file of the Myers in the area and I do show a John Myers age 19 in the 1850 Botetourt census. I Also a John F. Myers born about 1812 married Jane Huffman and he died 13Feb1876 in Craig County. A John Myers born about 1837 in Montgomery and married Nancy Jane Shaver in 1868. A John William Myers born 3 Dec1835 in Giles. A John Myers born about 1836 and married in 1858 to Nancy Dobbs. My line is John Myers who married Elizabeth "Betsy" Goodnight. Your Dolly Davidson rang a bell, as I have one in the family who is the daughter of William and Nancy Evans Engart. From my information (which is sometimes incorrect) Dolly married Thomas Davidson and was a widow by 1845 with three children: Salina, who married Henry C. Hoylman; Tavernon, nothing known about this child; and Rutherford, who married Sarah Frances Melton on 30 Dec 1869 in Kanawha County, W. VA and had at least three children. Dolly then married Ezekial G. Porter, born Campbell County, parents unknown, and they had two children together: Mary Virginia Porter and William S. Porter. I don't have much information on these children. Ezekiel was first married to Matilda Sizer, daughter of John Sizer of Botetourt County.Ezekiel and Matilda had six children who were brought into the marriage between Ezekiel and Dolly. Ezekiel became a master blacksmith and moved his family to Covington, Alleghany County, VA, where, presumably, they both died before 1880. I do not have death dates. I am directly descended from Ezekiel and Matilda Sizer Porter through their last child together, Sarah S. Porter, who married a cousin, Thomas Jefferson Sizer, Jr. Hope that helps - if anyone can help fill in the holes, it would be appreciated. Cheers, Linda

    1. [VABOTETO-L] Looking for William B. KING Researchers in Botetourt Co.
    2. While I keep chipping away at my KING line from Botetourt county, a thought came to me about looking in a different manner. My brick wall (at least in this line) is a William R. KING, born about 1835 (according to his 1862 enlistment papers), and born in Botetourt County (at least according to the 1880 census where his children list their father's birthplace as Botetourt). William was killed in his first battle in 1862 at Williamsburg and I have that info. The problem is, however, I can't find him in the 1850 or 1860 censuses. I have indexed all Kings in the 1850 Virginia census (1,885 in all), and still no luck. (This data will hopefully be posted soon on Rootsweb.) However, there is a William B. King in the 1850 census (pg. 146A), age 44, with 6 children, mostly spaced every two years, except missing a child at the age of about 15, the age that my William would have been. I also checked William B.'s listing in 1840, and it shows a son age 5-10 that does not show up in the 1850 census. Could this missing son be my William R., off galavanting some place else? That seems to be a good age to be placed in some one else's care to earn some extra money for the family. Is anyone out there researching the William B. King family, per chance??? If so, I would love to correspond with you. BTW, my William R. King's family was congregated around Indian Rock, just north of Buchanan. Maybe some of the Kings in Buchanan today might be related to some of his progeny, namely John Wesley King. Here's keeping my fingers crossed. Happy New Year!
