From my understanding so far, there was more than 1 Henry branch in the Botetourt County area. I have a microfilm reader and been trying for several weeks to get in contact with my local LDS to obtain some microfilm of early Botetourt and Augusta counties. One of these days someone will answer the phone! I live in a small town in E.TN. Patti

One of my co-researchers is liking the Martha Wood and John SMITH marriage for a target but no matter who we look to for a John family no one has any kids that match the lady's name...she must have been using a short name or something....as a kid anyway. She actually lived until about 1870 as she was in Indiana with her next to youngest daughter's family in 1860 and not there in 1870.

Two of the sons of John James and wife, Malvina/Lavina/Levina SMITH/JAMES married into the line of NICELY in Rockbridge. I wonder if this is the same SMITH family? We have no clues accept that marriage note delivered by horseback in 1802 by Samuel Gray. We assume it went to Fincastle as in about 1802 it likely took in all the "official correspondence", for lack of a better work/s at the moment! Is it just John who is the birckwall? The only real document we have is a message sent by a preacher to please add the marriage to the lists of entries by himself as the minister of the ceremony. That was in 1802. We have various circa birth data from census and other items of the children which show her birth as about 1893 via her own census count of age given (which either makes her a contract child bride in 1802) as does using the year of 1810/11 for the 1st child. Either that or she was illiterate about her birth age and place. It doesn't make a lot of sense.......

Wirt. Also, the other source documents for the Henrys in Botetourt Co. VA. I had thought perhaps Sarah Henry was first married to a Henry and then John T. Wirt. Your source documents certainly showed me Sarah's maiden name was Henry. Rena, if in the future you hear of any information regarding William Henry's children: William, John, Samuel and Peggy, would you please let me know. What I have in source documents is that John T. Wirt died either in Botetourt Co. VA following the 1820 Census or enroute to Hardin Co. TN. Sarah Wirt is listed in the 1830 Hardin TN Census and forward through the 1850 Census. From the 1820 Botetourt Co. census for John T. Wirt is shown males in the age group to be my William A. Henry and his siblings. Then in Hardin TN are several other surnames from Botetourt Co. VA in land transactions with our William Henry born July 1804 in VA. Those surnames are Hawk, Hawkins, Carroll, Davy and Cravens. William Henry m. Elizabeth Russell 1831 Hardin TN. William Henry moved his family on to Jackson Co. AR in 1853. In 1856 William Henry, Elizabeth Henry and Samuel Henry were all selling lands to a David Johnson. The Johnsons were close with this Henry line for many years in TN and AR. ! I wonder if the Anna Henry & Orsmus Johnson marriage in 1805 links these Henrys and Johnsons? Again, thanks so much for taking the time to send me the source documents on the Henrys. If you know the name of the wife of William Henry who died 1815 Boutetourt Co. would you please share with me. I had thought perhaps she was a Harvey, but so far I haven't located a marriage. Sincerely, Carolyn Anderson
